We found the Nerja Tapas Run to be great fun although the downside of bar hopping for different plates of food was a little confusing for note taking purposes. That I've managed to pull together some notes and memories of our fourth tapas run venue, Bodega Los Bilbainos, is something of a proud moment. Perhaps I should have interspaced the alcohol with the occasional soft drink or coffee. However when you can have a great tasting glass of wine for one euro fifty and where they throw in a tapas dish free, how can you resist? The Bodega los Bilbainos which translated into English apparently means "hold the locals" is a rare beast in Nerja a real traditional Spanish drinking den. ...Read More

I won’t claim to be an expert of Spain’s southern coast, but I know that many of the Spanish towns with a beach in this neck of the woods seem to be over commercialised. One shining example to the contrary is the town of Nerja about 30 miles up the coast from Malaga. We visited the town a decade or so ago and enjoyed ourselves so when our friends (who now live in Nerja) invited us to visit for a long weekend we jumped at the chance. The town seems to have managed that nice mix of quiet but with plenty of bars and restaurants to explore perfectly. It helps that Nerja is a pretty place with lots of sandy coves and attractive mountain ranges to look at. We are certainly looking forward to a r...Read More

One of the best and laziest Nerja activities is to take a "tapas" run across town. Many of the bars in Nerja will offer you a small bite to eat if you stand at the bar and buy a drink. The glass of wine might cost you around a pound but if you take your time and drink maybe half a dozen glasses at various bars you will find that you've also eaten enough for dinner. The only downside is that you might not remember what you've eaten! If you stay in a bar for a second drink you will usually be offered a second tapas to sample. As we like freebies this sounded like a very good evening's entertainment although it did get a little muddled by the end of the evening. Our tapas run star...Read More

One of the great Nerja pastimes is to take a "Tapas Run" where you take advantage of receiving a free snack at a bar if you order a drink. Buy enough liquid and you don’t need to pay for dinner. Of course you could be sensible and buy a few non alcoholic drinks along the way but it seems to kill part of the fun in my book. Our second Tapas venue of the evening was to visit El Meson de Julio in the centre of Nerja. This was a very friendly place where the owner indulged our recently relocated to Spain friends by offering an impromptu Spanish lesson while he was working behind the bar. There are some nice looking tables outside where you can watch the world go by but as we were o...Read More

In some respects our third tapas bar of our Nerja "tapas run" marathon was the best. What I particularly liked was that the good quality tapas arrived for us all to share and this meant we all got a taste of everything. Of course I know some people are a bit squeamish about sharing food so you might try and ask for a solo plate if you are. Me? I just see it as an opportunity to strengthen my immunity system. The other good thing about eating free tapas is that you receive a sample of something you probably wouldn't have dreamed of ordering. As I'm a bit of a foodie (lots of it has passed through my lips over the years) I was in foodie heaven. Our food at La Posta Ib...Read More
