Windsor is renowned as a Royal seat, with the enormous castle dominating the town. It's less well known for socializing but being both a Barrack town & a commuter haven, Windsor has to cater for a wide range of shopping, eating, drinking & clubbing tastes.

The castle is one of the most obvious things to see when you're in town, but don't limit yourself to just that.

Try:

Nosing through the shops in Eton or the old station - Windsor has an unusual mix of basic & very upmarket shops, sprinkled with a fair few aimed at the foreign (generic North American especially) market. If you want a traditional English teddy bear, wearing tartan & smelling of Olde English Roses then I'm sure you won't be disappointed;
a gentle stroll down The Long Walk - a long flat avenue that leads away from the castle - or over the bridge into Eton to relax & build up a thirst before the night's adventures;
a full evening visiting a variety of bars - the locals tend to follow their own set agendas including at least three places in an evening;
dancing in one of only a very small number of clubs, some select, others less so.

Quick Tips:

Windsor isn’t quite up to London's standards, but if you happen to find yourself at a loose end in the Royal county you might want to consider spending some time there one evening.

Best Way To Get Around:

Most things in Windsor are within walking distance, though I'd recommend booking a cab to get home afterwards; you can grab one on the street but you'll have to compete with everyone else.

The Slug & Lettuce

It's one of the trendy bars in Windsor, kitted out in glass, chrome & wood. The very front part has a few tables with chairs, in the middle there are more tables, some designed to be stood at whilst at the very back you'll find a fussball table & a couple of sofas before you reach the deck. They've left a lot of space for just standing & chatting if that's more your scene, and the bar runs down one side so you should get served within a few minutes even at the busiest times.

You can order food during the day & in the early evening, but the main reason for going is to drink, see & be seen by the Windsor trendies - though don't get excited as 'trendy' in Windsor means being young, attractive & wearing labelled clothes, _not_ being at all outrageous.

It's a popular place whether you're looking to meet up with new friends or find a potential partner and is normally full on both Fridays & Saturdays whatever the season, though as all Windsorians tend to move from one place to another you should have no trouble getting in even in the hectic pre-Christmas crowds. Weekdays are quieter but you'll still have plenty of company.

Windsor isn't up to much, but this is certainly one of the better places to go.
