Sitting in a Rotemburo (outdoor onsen) at 5am watching the sun rise and listening to the wildlife.The trail to Tenninkyo Onsen form Ashidake is questionably much further than stated,, It took me 3 hours to cover what was a 5.5km trail and i was walking a good pace..There are two routes the best one is to take the path opposite the Youth Hostel and then turn a sharp right into the campsite,, don't follow the path that climbs a steep path that is straight ahead. A very clean place, excellent food...wonderful views over the mountains and a indoor and outdoor naturally heated Japanese bath. The staff were also helpful and provided valuable information for walks in the area.
