My family has had connections with Boston in Lincolnshire for quite a while now, going on for thirty years or more. I am the only member who has never lived in the town but I do go to visit regularly as my sister, brother and parents live there. When I was there in September with my granddaughter I became very interested in the monument that stands in a circular courtyard in front of St Botolph’s Church or otherwise known as The Stump. I must have walked past this monument hundreds of time and never studied it. The lady in jade wearing a head dress and a gown that appears to be slipping from her shoulders, attracted me to the spot where the monument stands. She is pouring wate...Read More

Johnson's Garden Centre

Attraction | "Tip top family garden centre"

Quote:
I've already mentioned in my story about the restaurant belonging to Johnson's Garden Centre that visiting a garden centre is something of a family ritual as my Father is a very keen and excellent gardener. I've decided to write about this particular garden centre as I think it has something for everyone even small children. As well as a large restaurant serving home made food, cakes and desserts the centre has a lot more to offer. Here's a tour. After we had finished our meal in the restaurant we needed a walk so we went to look at the plants and pots section. I was impressed with the layout of this area and the number of staff on duty who were available to give advice, help with lifting ...Read More

My Dad is a keen gardener and as far back as I can remember when I have visited my parents back home in the UK there has always been a trip to a garden centre on the itinerary. This year my Dad was away so my granddaughter and I took a trip with my Mum and sister to the local garden centre called Johnson’s. This is on Wainfleet Road in Boston, a short drive from my parent’s house. The Johnson family have owned the business for many years and always employed local people. They believe in having special contact with their customers and supplying top quality food and goods. We visited as a family on a Sunday afternoon. There is a huge car park in front of the garden centre so we didn’t have an...Read More

Churches Restaurant

Restaurant | "It ain't haute cuisine - just old fashioned English grub"

Quote:
Churches restaurant is one of my Mum's favourite cafes in Boston, Lincolnshire and somewhere she always takes me whenever I go back to visit..The cafe/restaurant is situated on Church Street and named after the street; an old fashioned sort of place, very quaint, very, very English. The building that houses the restaurant is a cross between the Old Curiosity Shop and the Crooked House. Not only is it crooked it is a bit crowded too which adds a bit of colour to the place because wherever you turn you will see jars of home-made jam, hand crafted cakes, coffee beans, originally designed craft cards, scented candles, and so on. As you enter the cafe off the cobbled street you will see how cl...Read More

Restaurant | "I should have gone to Eagles!"

On my last trip to UK a few weeks ago I spent 3 days with my family in Boston, Lincolnshire. As my son and I really miss fish and chips living in Poland we decided that we should go to one of the best chippies in Boston for lunch. It was my Mother's treat - we just had to decide which chippie to go to. There are two fish/chips restaurants in Boston and both have excellent reputations so it was difficult to choose. One is called, Eagles, and this is a little way out of the town centre and then there is Tate's, a family run business which has been trading for well over a hundred years. We chose Tate's.Where do we find Tate's? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tate's is ver...Read More
