In addition to the street of the same name, there are a few other obvious ones within the area known as Arab Street. Part of me wonder if this might be as close as I ever come to seeing the real deal as advertised in a guide book or whether it was part of a tongue in cheek movie from long ago depicting the Middle East. There were clearly a couple of blocks where the storefronts were quite narrow, but had considerable depth. The second floor with tiny balcony and storm shutters could well be where the owner lived. The businesses narrowed down to a handful of goods being sold. One was the variety of perfumes and delicate little bottles I recalled buying in Egypt, another was fabric carefu...Read More

Why the area known as Little India is called India Street, like the area called Arab Street is a mystery to me. Overall, it encompasses several more blocks. I couldn’t help but notice the streets closest to the canal, on which the other side is Arab Street, housed an abundance of hostels. None of which looked particularly new, renovated or how shall I say, welcoming. My experience visiting the Hindu Temple Sri Veeramakaliamman was unfortunately nothing like my experience at the Hindu temple in Yangon, Myanmar. I doubt I could ever be so blessed, literally, as I was there. However, delightful statues of Shiva, the supreme god, Ganesha, the god that has an elephants head, and the Monkey ...Read More

Gardens by the Bay encompass over 100 hectares along Singapore’s waterfront. Newly opened a few days ago in June 2012. That being said, many plants are in their infancy enabling a bird’s eye view into how plant are shaped, propped up, or weighted down to create a particular appearance. Think of nurturing a bonsai on a much larger scale. What would all the closely planted together ferns look like years from now? Right now they look like a scaled down rain forest. At what point will the boulders be taken off the palm trees that retain their horizontal trunk growth. Indeed, it would be interested to see it in the future. On the other hand, it is quite spectacular today. Most notable, ...Read More

Marina Bay Hotel's 15 minute show is spectacular enough to warrant seeing more than once. The theme of the displays changes but how often might be monthly. Having seen displays with shooting water at different angles and heights keeping time with background music and colored lights making the water appear colored, the show would be great but not necessarily really different. Yet it was.The theme at the time was Wonder Full and pays tribute to the benefits of water and the life it supports. With the use of lasers, projects, shooting water and mist, the event comes alive. After various streams of brightly colored water shot into the air with a terrific Singapore skyline for a backdrop, ...Read More

Singapore airport is the hub for Singapore Airlines which offers creative routes for flights all over. It came as a little surprise to find a 29 hour layover there, but delightful. In any case, having seen the airport and experience the public transportation, a layover of any length at any hours would be fine at this airport. The body’s senses were accommodated nicely here. Eyestrain could be relieving focusing on the exotic flowering orchids, cactus garden, or butterfly garden. The sounds of the waterfalls could easily lull a person to sleep as they relaxing in the napping area of the airport containing lounges and tables hidden behind a lush corner of plants reaching toward the light ...Read More
