Wook a Chinese Restaurant in Warsaw bang in the centre, opposite the train station underneath the Hotel Marriot. The restaurants which are part of the big Hotels in Warsaw have a reputation as being some of the culinary wonders of the city and I'd heard some good reports about Wook. It's not a place, I would recommend going though. Basically you buy small rectangular dishes with a small portion of whatever you've ordered - dishes are cheap at 6zl but you will realistically need about 4 of them. I find that they stick some mixed vegetables like cabbage underneath and then put a few strips of the meat or other dish you have ordered on top.The flashy inside is something I'd imagine coming acr...Read More

Restaurant | "Affordable and Edible Puts it Ahead of Competitors"

Kim Son Kebab and Chinese Photo - Warsaw, Poland
Quote:
To your average passer by Kim Son may sound like the successor to North Korea's president but those in the know will be aware of the affordable and better yet - edible food on offer at this modest Asian restaurant on the corner opposite the Anieliwicza tram stop in Warsaw. From the outside the only tell-tale difference to the other zillion of cheap Vietnamese snack bars in Poland's capital is that there is a kebab in the front window as well. The walls aren't particularly thick, which makes it chilly in the winter but the decor is a definite improvement on the really grubby Asian outlets on the other side of the river, whether it be around what is left of the market in Praga or the busy Ro...Read More

Sapaya

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Pooey Spring Rolls, no Thanks!"

Quote:
Sapaya is a relatively new chain of Asian restaurants in Warsaw, when one opened up at the end of the street I live on, I gave it the eye and made a note in my mind to go there and add it to the plentiful restaurant reviews on dooyoo. Good Chinese food in the capital city of Poland is hard to come by, there's plenty of cheap shacks and small restaurants set up by the Vietnamese community but it's hard to work out what meat you are eating, the slop on top seems to vary little and I have a feeling that the people cooking are not chefs but merely people cooking to earn a living because their only other option is to go into the fake clothes business, an enterprise which due to the closing down of several ...Read More

A few weeks ago - it was birthday weekend (my wife, my mother, me and various other people including Brigitte Bardot have birthdays at the end of September). I'm not a big fan of birthdays but always make an effort at this time of year - so had pencilled in a visit to the Indonesian restaurant Galeria Bali in Warsaw. It's one I had intended to visit and review for some time, it received rather good ratings in local guides but the price had so far put me off.. but this was birthday weekend and a time where money didn't matter.Indonesian grub is someting I'm not very knowledgeable about, so I'd struggle to tell you how authentic it was but this was my experience!Location---...Read More

Matsu Sushi and Thai Wok Restaurant

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "A tale of two cuisines"

Quote:
Matsu Sushi & Thai Wok Restaurant is one of Warsaw's many sushi joints, located close to a busy crossroads, the outside seats aren't overly aesthetic although the restaurant does its best to seperate it from the street with various flowers and a wooden platform and the outside seats are only good for a couple of months when the weather is fine which could make it a little cramped inside. The inside decor is rather bare with the occasional Japanese painting on the wall, a purple seating arrangement which seems to clash with the green uniforms of the staff but it's still likely to attract sickily comments like "Got to love the Japanese - so minimalistic"It is not only very clo...Read More

Restaurant | "Top service, great food, recommended!"

When it comes to sushi, I don't really have much experience, always considering it as rather expensive grub and not willing to fork out as much as I would willingly on an Indian. I've ate some homemade sushi by a friend and I'm occasionally bombarded with leaflets from the nearby sushi restaurant but there's Sushi restaurants coming out of Warsaw's ears and it's only so long before you can avoid coming into contact with roar fish. Several years ago, the idea would likely have been repulsive to me, least not perhaps because I was a vegetarian! These days though, I'm quite open to anything and when it became clear I was heading for a birthday party at Akashia in the centre of Warsaw, the onl...Read More
