The best thing about Barcelona is the wide variety of restaurants and cafe’s that you can find on every street. The people in Barcelona live outside and with the beautiful weather they normally have you can’t really blame them. One of my favorite things to do when in Barcelona is to sit outside enjoying the street life of Barcelona and have a glass of wine and some delicious food. That’s actually what we did on the second night in Barcelona.

We had dinner at a restaurant called Farga which can be found in the northern area of the city center. The restaurant is located at the street called Gran via de les corts and has mostly outdoor seating. It’s located in an area were you can find many restaurants and terraces and it is normally always busy. You can’t really say it’s a quiet area since there are many cars passing by but this restaurant is luckily a little bit more on a side street were you simply hear the cars in the background.

We actually choose this restaurant because after walking for around 20 minutes we finally found a table that could seat the four of us. Like i said before this area is popular and it can be difficult to find a seat. We got lucky and when we spotted the table we went right for it.

The restaurant is not your typical tapas restaurant and offers more a selection of fish and meat dishes. I will add a picture of the menu. The menu doesn’t offer a large selection of food and was a bit disappointment. You have your hot and cold starters, main meals and desserts. A down side of the menu is that you will have to add 20% to the prices you see on the menu since they charge a supplement. After the dinner we got the bill and we noticed that it was a bit more then 20% extra they charge. A real shame especially since i don’t think there were even that much indoor seating anyway.

The menu was a big disappointing but we managed to find something to eat. As a starter we had bread with olive oil and tomatoes which tasted good. As a main meal i went for carpaccio with beef and cheese and i have to say i was very pleased. The portion was a big small especially for the price of 20 euro’s. After i finished my meal i was still hungry so that was a shame.

It is a bit of an expensive restaurant for what you are getting. I thought the quality of the food was reasonable and the portions a bit small. With the four of us we had 1 starter, 4 main meals, 4 drinks (beer and coca cola) and 4 coffee and we spend 94 euro’s. With four people it’s not that much to spend on dinner but for the amount we had, it was overpriced.

Overall i enjoyed myself at this restaurant. The location is good and the seating was very comfortable. We had some music playing in the background and the food was reasonable. The service was ok but could have been a bit better. Not the best restaurant so for me only three stars.

The first day we were in Barcelona we arrived at 22.00 so we only had time to wonder around the neighborhood a bit, but we never had the chance to really explore the city. The second day we made sure we could enjoy the whole day and started in the early morning! Since the apartment we stayed in was very close to the city center we were there within 15 minutes of walking and standing on the famous Plaza Catalunya. From here you can go south all the way past the famous street of La Rambla and to the harbour area.

At around 13.00 one gets hungry and we decided it was time for lunch. We were in the area called El Gotico which consists of many small little streets full of shops and little restaurants. It’s an area i would adivse to go since it shows you the old Barcelona and it has a lot of atmosphere. The shops are a bit high end meaning the prices you might not like. The restaurant on the other hand are reasonably priced and we found restaurant Orio.

Restaurant Orio had a terrace outside which convinced us to stay and have lunch here. The restaurant is in the heart of the El Gotico area and quiet busy. We were lucky to have a seat for all four of us. We were in Barcelona in June with temperatures around 30 degrees and lots of sun so perfect weather to sit outside. But in case of cold weather i saw that they had heaters outside. The seats were very comfortable and had large pillows so you could easily sit there for a few hours.

Since we had walk all morning so started with something to drink and ordered some water and Coca Cola. We received our menu’s and i have to say that the selection of the menu wasn’t that large but sufficient. We all noticed that they ordered a plate of 10 sandwiches for the price of 20 euro’s. So we decided to go for the plate and also some patatas bravas which means chips with spicy sauce. I think all in all we went 40 euro’s.

We received our food within the next five minutes and it was clear of us that the sandwiches were prepared before. That didn’t matter since they were delicious. The sandwiches all had different toppings varying from Spanish ham, cheese, tomato, paste, olives, mushrooms and lots more. It is what the people in Spain call tapas and simply means different kind of small snacks. It’s almost like a main meal consisting of appetizers. The patatas bravas tasted ok but were a bit less tasty than i though they would be. Luckily they came with a spicy sauce which made them taste better.

I can certainly recommend going to this restaurant for lunch. Since we haven’t been here for dinner, I can’t say anything about that. The service was fast and polite and their English was good. Since it’s in the middle of the El Gotico area it can be quiet busy so it might be difficult to get a seat. There were some seating inside but not that much. I give five stars for this little but wonderful restaurant.

Eixample delight

I have been going to Barcelona quiet a few times and it’s simply one of my favorite cities in Europe. Barcelona simply has everything that you want from a city. It has a wonderful shopping opportunities, cafe’s, bars, cultural activities and of course the beach with a beautiful climate. For these reasons i simply fell in love with this city.

When going to Barcelona I advise to stay in the city center. You simply enjoy the city more then staying far and when you have to travel half an hour to get to the hotel. Also the city center offers many hotels and apartments which varies form cheap to very expensive. This time around we around with four people and decided to go for an apartment called Eixample Delight.

The apartment is located on just walking distance from the famous Plaza Catalunya and Passeig the Gracia. It’s located on the street Carre Arago which is one of the main streets in Barcelona. From the airport you can take the Aeroporto bus to Passeig de Gracia which costs around 5 euro’s each. When you are traveling with four people a taxi might be a better idea as you spend around 30 euro’s and it’s a lot faster. Within half an hour we stood in front of our apartment. The only problem was getting the key.

When booking the apartment you get instructions that you have to phone a telephone number in case that someone will meet you at the apartment. You have to phone them around 45 minutes before you get to the apartment, meaning you will have to phone them at the airport. The problem was that the first time nobody answered the phone. Luckily the second time someone did and we agreed that we would meet up within 40 minutes. Well unfortunately we were on time but the other person didn’t. We had to phone again at the apartment and after 20 minutes finally someone came to give us the key.

The apartment is located on the third floor and consist of two bedrooms, a toilet and shower, a storage room with washing machine, kitchen with dishwasher, fridge and cooking facilities, a dining room and a living room. Also adjoining the living room is a spacious balcony were you can sit with around four people. The whole apartment is spacious and every important it has air conditioning, free wireless internet and a television. Everything what you need.

The apartment can be reached with a small elevator which fit only two people. You can walk the stairs but it’s quiet a few stairs to walk. The apartment is spacious and actually very modern. It has a lot of Ikea furniture but they are comfortable and most important clean. The first bedroom is located right on the left when you enter and has two separate beds. The beds aren’t really comfortable but i managed to sleep quiet well. The master bedroom has a larger bed for two people and closet space. At the dining room you can find plates and in the kitchen the cutlery and cups and glass.

We had a wonderful time in this apartment which is large enough for four people. The kitchen was great and gave us a great opportunity to eat in normally and with a large enough fridge for all our food and drinks. The balcony was a big plus and very nice in the evening to enjoy a drink. While we stayed there we never heard any noise from our neighbors or had any other problem. A big five stars for this great apartment. For the four night we spend here we paid around 500 euro’s.

During our weekend in Barcelona we stayed at the hotel in the city center. When we go for a weekend away i always make sure we stay in the city center. I always think it’s a waste of spending time on travelling when you are only a few days away. I want to see and enjoy as much as I can of a city and for that reason we stay in the center of the city.

Barcelona is a beautiful city with much to offer. It has a great nightlife, shopping and cultural oppurtinities and even a beach. I love the culture and the people. They are much more outdoor people enjoying food and even a cup of coffee while sitting outside.

When we arrived at this hotel we just got of the metro and was only a few steps away from the metro station. The hotel looks modern and impressive from the outside and continues when we stepped into the lobby. The lobby and reception aren’t very large but large enough. At the reception were two staff members awaiting us and greeted us friendly. Checking in was a breeze and within a few minutes we were done. What i liked is that they offered us a map and a few leaflets of things to do in the city.

We stayed at the fifth floor of the hotel and had a view of the street. Not the most impressive view but not bad either. I liked to look outside to see how busy it is and especially at the night it was quite fun to watch. There wasn’t suprising any noise from the street which was ofcourse a huge plus.

The room itself is spacious with comfortable beds and a chair with desk. The bed itself was large and the pillows could have a been a little bit firmer but they were ok. The bathroom was clean and there was a bathtub/shower combination. The bathroom had a large irror and a hairdryer. Everything what we needed really.

Breakfast was served every morning and consisted of fresh juices and different kind of bread and toppings.The coffee tasted delicious and there was plenty of choice.

We had a wonderful tie at the hotel and enjoyed our few days away.
