Attraction | "A great place to spend the day "

We went to Grizedale primarily to do Go Ape which is an outdoor tree top adventure which involves climbing into the trees in the forest and going down on zip wires and over obstacles. Go Ape takes at least a couple of hours but when you are finished you really should spend some time in the forest as there is loads to see and do. The Grizedale visitors centre is a good place to start as here you can get information on all the walking trails in the forest and information on things to do in the local area. We did one of the shorter trails around the forest and we found it to be really easy going and the scenery was stunning. The visitors centre also sells some tourist items but the staff didn...Read More

Fellini's

Restaurant | "Vegetarian food for everyone"

I am not a vegetarian and neither are my friends so I was a little bit concerned when one of them suggested that we go to Fellini’s Restaurant for Sunday dinner as I knew that it was a vegetarian restaurant and for me Sunday dinner is all about Sunday roasts. Although I wasn’t exactly looking forward to going I had heard good things about the restaurant from other people so I was curious to try it out and see what I thought of it. Fellini’s is located in the Lake District town of Ambleside right in the centre of the town. It is housed in a lovely Lakeland stone building and inside is just as nice as the outside and very modern while still retaining a quaint edge to it. First im...Read More

Picnic Cinema

Story/Tip

Quote:
I recently went on a camping trip for the weekend to Grizedale Forest in the Lake District. The main reason for the trip was because my friends and I were attending Picnic Cinema and as it was a little bit out of our way we decided to just make a weekend of it. Picnic Cinema is an initiative run by the Eden Arts Council and part funded by the National Lottery. It aims to raise money to invest in local projects for the rural community and it does this by arranging for special and unique locations around Cumbria to hold outdoor screenings of classic movies in their grounds during July, August and September. As well as watching a classic movie it also encourages people to bring food and ...Read More

I recently went camping in the Lake District with some friends and we had planned on doing some activities while we were there. One of the things that I really wanted to do was to visit Go Ape as it was something that I had never done before but my friends had and they had all loved it.GoApe is an outdoor experience that is run in forests in 28 different locations across the country. It is essentially a tree top adventure that has zip wires, Tarzan swings and crossings that are suspended above the trees. The Grizedale Forest Go Ape is one of the highest sites in the country and is located right next to the Grizedale visitors centre so it is particularly easy to find. You can’t ...Read More

The main reason for my recent camping trip was because my friends and I were going to PicnicCinema which is an event that shows films in special locations around Cumbria. We were going to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind which was being shown on an outdoor screen in the middle of Grizedale Forest. As this was the main reason we wanted to find somewhere close to where the film was going to be shown. After searching the internet we settled on the Grizedale Campsite at Bowkerstead Farm. The campsite is located a couple of miles from the Grizedale Visitors centre and about half a mile to the village of Satterwaite. The site is located on a working farm and consists of two different...Read More
