Ex-Local's Guide to Pacific Grove

Overview

Quote:
Lover's Point, Asilomar, Point Pinos, lighthouse, Ocean View Blvd., Sunset Drive, monarch butterfly grove, seaside bike trail.

Quick Tips:

Kids will love the whale statue in front of the library. Sunsets at Point Pinos are world-class. Check out their website for official information.

Best Way To Get Around:

Bicycling from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Pebble Beach is a wonderful treat. Walking between the quaint downtown and shoreline is enjoyable.

Vivolo's

Restaurant

Quote:
Vivolo's has the best clam chowder outside Massachusetts. They have other seafood choices but I always get the chowder in a hallowed out bowl made from sourdough bread. A special treat is to get it carry-out and watch the sunset down at Point Pinos.

Peppers Mexicali Cafe

Restaurant | "Peppers"

Quote:
Peppers annually receives a "Best of Monterey County" award in the local papers. The menu is primarily Mexican with other Latin influences. Lots of seafood dishes. Everything is fresh and appealing to the senses. The decor is bright and lively.

Pasta Mia

Restaurant

Quote:
Pasta Mia is located in a renovated Victorian house. Dining areas are in different rooms. A very elegant experience. Pasta Mia regularly is selected as Monterey's best Italian restaurant by locals. What else can be said. Great Italian food, usually with a seafood focus (of course) and romatic setting.

Lovers Point Beach

Attraction | "Lover's Point Beach"

Quote:
Lover's Point, believe it or not, is named for "Lover's of Jesus Christ" not a place for romantic activity. You see, this area was once a Methodist settlement. Anyway, today you will see much more lover activity in this area and no religious fervor. The point is a dramatic outcropping of weathered rocks with twisted cypress trees. There are beaches on both sides. The one to the right has a nice volleyball court and swimming area. It is well protected from the wind, so even on cooler days it is very nice (if sunny). Many kayakers (leaving from Monterey area) make Lover's Point their turn around spot. Look for otters out there in the kelp beds.

I admit that I am not a golfer but friends and visitors that I have directed to this course have been pleasantly astounded. This is a gorgeous golf course (that I have walked and biked through many times) with green fees at a fraction of the Pebble Beach courses. You can watch golfers tee off when visiting the lighthouse and get an idea of the course's beauty. Watch out for the deer!

Adventures by the Sea

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction | "self-guided bike jaunt"

Quote:
Truly gorgeous scenery. A wonderful way to see the magnificent coastline of the Monterey Peninsula. Start your bike ride at Cannery Row, the Aquarium, or Lover's Point; bike rentals available at those locations from www.adventuresbythesea.com and others. Just stay along the coastline... There are plenty of stopping places and viewpoints. Look for otters in the kelp beds. Lots of tide pools, crashing waves, scenic views, and on and on. Just a memorable place. Ocean View Boulevard turns into Sunset Drive at Point Pinos. In that area, take the free tour of the lighthouse (831-648-3116 for hours). Between the lighthouse and Asilomar, the road...Read More
