We ate at the TGI Friday’s restaurant on Times Square during our stay in New York because we wanted something fairly quick and simple to eat after a hard day’s sightseeing, which is pretty much what we got. It’s not the cheapest place in the world, but it serves familiar food which is standardised across the chain, so you know what you are getting. There are actually two restaurants in the Broadway area of Manhattan and they are both much of a muchness but the one that we went to was the one that is actually on Broadway. It is a huge place and has four floors. We were sent straight up to the fourth floor which you arrive at by a very slow lift that only holds five or six people, so you’ll f...Read More

My new York City Top Five

Story/Tip

There is so much to see and do in New York, but here is my top 5 things that you have to see and do whilst you are there:1. Go Up The Empire State BuildingThe Empire State Building is probably the most famous of all the mega famous things in New York City and is well worth a trip up to the top. The views are absolutely outstanding, even on a not so clear day. We loved looking straight down the side of the building to get an idea of just how high up you are. Tickets aren’t as expensive as we thought they’d be – it’s about twenty dollars per person to get up to the top. There are queues, but don’t be fooled by the reps who try to sell you tickets to get to the front of the queue....Read More

New York For . . . .-Sightseeing-There are so many famous sights in New York that it is hard to know where to start. The Empire State Building is a must, the views from the top are incredible and even though it isn’t the tallest building in the world anymore, it is still the most famous. The Statue of Liberty is another such sight, which you can get to in a number of ways and you don’t have to pay the earth – there is a ferry that sails past it for just a couple of dollars and you can get excellent pictures. Go to Grand Central Station to get a look at the amazing windows and interior of the world’s most famous train station.-Shopping-There are untold amounts of sho...Read More

We found ourselves at Planet Hollywood on Times Square because we wanted something familiar, quick and not ridiculously expensive to eat before we headed to the theatre and we got exactly what we wanted. The restaurant is located on Times Square, so it is really easy to get to from pretty much anywhere in New York. There is a subway station just a block away. The restaurant is absolutely massive, pretty much like everything in this city and my first impressions were that it was loud and brash. The dining area is absolutely massive, although it is just over one floor, and the walls are all covered with huge TV screens that flash and shout scenes from all the big movies. It isn’t a place for...Read More

We went to the Intrepid Sea Air and Space museum on our recent trip to New York and we loved it. If you are in the city I’d recommend a visit even if you aren’t into all things machine like because it really is a fascinating place to visit and it does have some very interesting exhibits. The tickets for entry are $22 each although we got discount tickets from our hotel receptionist which gave us 25% off. It does seem a little bit steep but we had a good three hours there and I think it was definitely worth the entry price.Intrepid is actually the name of the ship that houses the museum over three decks. The first thing you visit though is the submarine that is moored alongside t...Read More

We stayed at the Grand Union hotel on our trip to New York, having chosen it based on countless hours of research beforehand to find a cheapish hotel that was in a good location. Hotels in New York are not cheap, with it being a big popular city that is tight on space, but for the most part we were happy with it. We paid about £100 per night for the hotel which turned out to be pretty good value for money based on, amongst other things, the fabulous location. The hotel is just a block from the Empire State Building, which in turn means that it is within walking distance of Times Square. There is a subway station nearby too which was brilliantly convenient for us, as was the large number of...Read More
