Zion National Park was the fourth of the parks we visited on our road trip and, I have to be honest, it was the one I was least looking forward to, probably because it was the one I knew least about. After having visited it, I can safely say that it turned out to be my favourite – even more so than Grand Canyon Park, Monument Valley and Bryce Canyon. Although they are all stunning and breath-taking, I just found Zion to be so very natural and pretty and I loved every minute that I spent there.===Location and Getting There===The park is located in the state of Utah and the nearest town is Springdale, which is located right at the park entrance. Getting to Springdale is easy; it ...Read More

We did a road trip around the canyon area of the US and our last stop was Zion National Park. We weren’t sure where to stay for the best – we knew that there was hotel right in the centre of the park, but it was very expensive and we were trying to keep costs down as much as possible. We settled on Under The Eaves, which is in the nearby town of Springdale as it appeared to be a much cheaper option and had received excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and the like. Under the Eaves was fantastic; comfortable, in a fabulous location and came with a warm welcome.===Booking===The warm welcome and cosy feel of Under the Eaves is the thing that the owners (Mark and Joe) are most proud of...Read More

The Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel is actually one of two Best Western hotels in the little village type area just outside the entrance to the Bryce Canyon national park. It is slightly cheaper than the other one, which is Ruby’s Inn and I’ll be honest, that is the main reason we chose this one. It turned out to be a great option because the hotel was comfortable and convenient.Getting to the hotel is so easy because it literally is at the gates to the national park so if you follow signs for that, you are onto a winner. As you approach the park gates, you can see the Best Western on the left hand side. There is a huge car park in front of it and I would imagine that even at pe...Read More

Ruby’s Inn restaurant at Bryce Canyon is a buffet type restaurant that offers an a la carte menu as well if you wish. We ate here when we stayed across the road at the Best Western Bryce Canyon Hotel and for the most part enjoyed our visit. We visited in mid-October and found that it was the end of the season and many of the shops, cafes and restaurants were closed already in the little Bryce Village area just outside the gates of the national park. At the beginning of October, most things close and there is just a ‘skeleton service’ operating throughout the winter. This meant that the restaurant at Ruby’s Inn is actually the only place that you can get an evening meal in the immediate area...Read More

Bryce Canyon was one of my favourite of the national parks we visited on our road trip. Grand Canyon is obviously the most famous and it is indeed spectacular, but there is something quite magical about Bryce Canyon because it just looks so unreal – a bit like something you’d find at Disney Land in fact. The park itself is easy to explore and very much worth a visit. We stayed just outside the park at the entrance where there is a little village with two hotels, a restaurant, a couple of shops and some other useful amenities such as a petrol station and post office. There is also a hotel inside the park (Bryce Canyon Lodge) as well as lots of campsites so there is plenty of choice. We actua...Read More
