When our friend Billy called us and told us that they would be playing the House of The Blues, we quickly made plans to go for the weekend and see them play. The House of the Blues has been around since the original venue in Cambridge MA in 1992. It was inspired by the music and cuisine of the rural south. Today there are 13 House of the Blues throughout the country. The House of the Blues is both a concert venue as well as a restaurant on the premises. There is also a House of the Blues Foundation which helps keep music and the arts in the school system. You can hold a corporate or private event such as parties or weddings. 9 of the clubs also feature the Foundation Room where...Read More

Nick and I need something to do during the day before we headed out towards the House of the Blues, so we decided to head over to Broadway at the Beach to see the fishes at the amazing Ripley’s Aquarium. The aquarium is one of the most visited sites in South Carolina. More than 10,000 creatures from all over the world and 350 species called this place home. Guests enter on the upper level. There are not as many exhibits up here. There are guest services, the gift shop, the marine conservation center, and exhibit hall for traveling and changing exhibits. There is a small Amazon display here that highlights creatures from the Amazon and features the deadly piranhas. ...Read More

In Marion SC, about 40 miles outside of Myrtle Beach heading towards Charlotte, you will find a major tourist trap known as Sparky's. Here you can fill up your gas tank, fill up your tummy, nosh on food, and take a pee break before heading on home. About 10 miles before we hit Sparky's we started seeing signs….fireworks 10 miles ahead….saltwater taffy 9 miles ahead….hermit crabs 8 miles ahead..and so forth. The yellow signs are enticing and I like the little puppy logo they use. We need to fill up on gas and Nick loves fireworks, so we decided to stop in at Sparky’s. This is defiantly a tourist trap and the place is huge. One section has racks and racks of T-shirts. You c...Read More

When our friends in the Motley Crue/Poison tribute band called us to tell us they were playing at the House of the Blues and invited us to come and see them, we decided to go down and make a weekend of it. Nick and I stayed at the Super 8 Barefoot Landing. The hotel is great. The rooms are nice, clean, and inviting. They are in a great location, located only 5 minutes from Barefoot Landing. You are 5 minutes from North Myrtle Beach and about 15 minutes from Myrtle Beach. We had dinner at the House of the Blues restaurant before heading next door for our concert. The restaurant offers some terrific food and if you here on Sunday, then you will want to check out the renowned Sund...Read More

If there is a Hard Rock in town, then you know I have to go. So after visiting the aquarium, we were starving and the Hard Rock was right beside of us, so that is where we would be dining for lunch that day. You can start your meal off right with appetizers such as Hard Rock Nachos, Potato Skins, or Santa Fe Spring Rolls. There are almost a dozen burgers to choose from. There are several options from the smokehouse. You can choose from 3 sandwiches. This place also offers 6 different kinds of pizza. Nick goes with the South Carolina sandwich from the smokehouse and I go with the Goat cheese chicken sandwich. The South Carolina is a pulled pork sandwich topped with South C...Read More

As Nick and I were leaving, he mentioned going to Golden Corral. I asked if we could go somewhere else that I couldn’t go to back home so I could write about it on IGOUGO. We headed down restaurant row (N. King’s Highway) to see what we could find. But all the restaurants were running in the $20 pp range. I was beginning to give up and think I would be going to Golden Corral when I remarked that I wish we could find a buffet like back home. Then I notice the sign for New China Buffet and the price was $11.95. We pulled in and away we went. The buffet is the largest Chinese buffet in the area with over 150 items to choose from. And no it’s not just Chinese. Though there is plenty of that as...Read More

Since Nick and I were headed to the House of the Blues anyway, we decided to just eat at the restaurant. That way we could just go on over next door afterwards and see our friends playing. You can start your meal off with appetizers such as Cornbread with maple butter, wings, and flatbread. They have classics such as Jambalaya or Shrimp and Grits. They also have several sandwiches and over half a dozen burgers. For those looking at a lighter menu they have 4 salads including the House of the Blues salad. I go for the pulled pork sandwich while Nick chooses the Smoked BBQ Bacon burger. Both come with a bag of seasoned fries and Nick gets a platter with mustard, ketchup, an...Read More

digs on a nice budgetWhen friends of ours invited us to come out and see them play at the House of the Blues, Nick called to see if he could get us a room at the last minute. With reservations secure, we were ready for a rock and roll weekend. I know that there are some really nice Super 8’s out there. But I am still always kinda hesitant to book one. This is the one Nick always stays at and he assured me that it was really nice. Sure enough he was right. This place is a great place to stay when you’re in the Myrtle Beach area. Nick and I checked in and it was a breeze. The outside is clean and very lovely with lots of flowers and palmetto palms outside. We have a k...Read More
