Located on the Zattere in Dorsoduro, I stopped here often for a gelato. I watched the cruise ships go by, and people watched. A great location on what I would call the boardwalk to sit in the sun and watch the world go by while having a cool gelato!

I had to walk by this place every day, and it was hard not to stop every time! Your sweet tooth will definitely be satisfied! So many macaroons, cannolis, hot chocolate, pizza, breads, candies, fruit tarts, and soft drinks. They will even box up some things for you take when you go home!

I noticed several bad reviews of this place. If you want to spend several hundred euros on a meal, then you should not come here. I found it to be exactly what I wanted all restaurants in Venice to be - homey, inexpensive, and what I was looking for. Only open from 7 pm for a few hours, on the two occasions I ate there once I was all alone, and the second time there was only one other table occupied. I like a less crowded place. The lady does not speak English, so it was an excuse to be forced to speak Italian. She said what was available, and I either figured it out, or got what came! No menus in this place. I ordered (or thought I had ordered!) pasta with meat sauce, and that's what I got, h...Read More

Located between Rialto and St. Marks, had great service and great food in a beautifully decorated restaurant. Since it was lunchtime, I opted for pizza and wasn't disappointed. I had the Joro - tomatoes, mozzarella, sausage, brie, and sweet peppers - 11.50 euro and plenty to take home.

Located near the Rialto Bridge, stopped in for something different. Had salads and burgers, plenty of wines and beers to choose from. All were great. Service was a little slow, but everyone was friendly. The oldest pub in Venice. Does not take credit cards.

Strictly takeout, but worth it. Grab your favorite by the slice or take a whole one home for dinner. Very friendly atmosphere. Located in a covered alleyway when you are leaving Campo San Stefano on the way to San Marco. Cheap, but very tasty and convenient.

A great place to stop for tramezzini sandwiches and a glass of wine or beer, or maybe a spritz. A local place, you order at the counter, and then pay when you are finished eating. A big selection of sandwiches at great prices, and very delicious.

A great find for grabbing some cicchetti's and a glass of wine while standing at the bar. This is near a squero (gondola boatyard), and you might see a new gondola making it's maiden voyage!

A great place for a quick snack under the clock tower in St. Mark's Square. Grabbed a sandwich and a drink and continued my walk. This is an extremely busy intersection between Rialto and St. Mark's, so there is always a crowd.

Located right in the heart of Saint Mark's Square at the clock tower, this was a hot spot during Carnival! People were arriving in costume to have hot chocolate or coffee. A great show while taking in the Square. Plenty of seating inside or outside, a must do when in Venice.

I always stop at the Hard Rock when I'm travelling for my souvenir glass! This time I also ate in the restaurant. Loud as usual, but that's part of the atmosphere. Also always crowded, but the service was pretty quick - and I got my burger and fry fix. Located next to a gondola stop, and just steps away from St. Mark's Square.

Wonderful location across the gondola station from the Hard Rock Cafe, may be a little noisy at night for some. Only stayed here one night while waiting to get into the Albergo San Samuele. They have a lounge, tv in your room along with a mini bar, hairdryer, and air conditioning for during the summer. Just steps away from St. Mark's Square.

Gondolas Photo, Venice, Italy

Venice is one of those places that you must explore on foot - you really don't have a choice. You will arrive by boat, and you will either walk or ride one of the water taxis. But the city is really walkable, it's not that big and if you take it a sestiere (section) at a time it is really easy to do. Try walking a sestiere each day. You will get the feel of the city this way. Find the squares around the churches, walk where the locals do. Take the gondola ride (even though it is pricey), because that is the thing to do. Grab a slice of pizza to go, sit in the square and watch the world go by, have a glass of wine and watch the boats on the Grand Canal. You might even catch a giant cruise ship ...Read More

I wanted to do something different when I went to Venice. I found Mario and his "school of seeing". Since the city is most known for the gondola, I chose to do one of his photography workshops. Mario offered a 2 day workshop learning every aspect of the gondola. We visited workshops all over the city, and I got to see the boats being constructed (they do not use nails), seeing oars carved, and watching brass fittings being poured and polished into the beautiful fittings used on the gondola. We also visited squeros, or boatyards, and got to visit with the craftsmen as they worked. Mario was there every minute to translate what they were doing, and to relay questions that I had. I really enjoyed ...Read More

This was definitely on my bucket list, and I got to cross it off in February of this year! All you have to do is show up in Saint Marks Square - the people in costumes do the rest! It is mind blowing the extend they go to in perfecting their costumes - you have to see it to believe it! The area around St. Marks is beautiful for photography - so many arches, doorways, and the backdrop of the Grand Canal. The people knew where to pose and gladly did so. Your only problem will be the jostling and the rudeness of some of the photographers trying to take pictures. Just be patient and wait your turn, even if the costumed people move along, they are just moving to another perfect location! The fun goe...Read More

I booked this hotel because of its location - not off of St. Marks Square - which made it less expensive, and because it was near the Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal. I was not disappointed. The room was more than adequate, and the staff was very attentive. The owner, Judith, was very eager to help with all requests that I made. There were many restaurants in the area to choose from. You will have to climb steps to get to the upstairs where the rooms are located. Judith was busy renovating the third floor, so there will be more rooms to choose from soon. Free wifi in your room, with a computer to use in the reception if you didn't bring your laptop.
