Ledo Pizza

Restaurant | "Just okay"

Ledo Pizza Photo, Chincoteague Island, Virginia
Quote:
The pizza was good and filling, but not our favorite. It's square, which is okay, but they use an extremely thin crust which more resembled a cracker. Both times we picked up take out the place was almost deserted. Portion sizes were big though, the large pizza would easily feed five people.

Dine in and free delivery, very casual admosphere and kid friendly. They had a wide variety of pizzas, sandwiches, subs, and seafood. We had pizza several times here, and even got a thumbs up on the chicken parmigian from one very picky eater!

A little pricey, but the food was great! Nice location along the harbor to catch the sunset. Had crab balls and crab cakes, shrimp, oysters, and a menu for the kids. Service was excellent, and it was a quiet place.

Great location just off Main St. on the waterfront. Visit in the evening to see the sunset! They had soups, salads, raw bar, appetizers, and sandwiches. We had scallops, clamstrips, and crab cakes, and they were really good. Open 11 am daily, for lunch and dinner, with live entertainment six days a week. Takes Visa/MC.

Take out only, but you can sit at one of the picnic tables outside to eat! There are also some games outside to play while you wait. Really fresh seafood, and you can also get your raw seafood to take home to cook yourself. We had battered brocolli nuggets, oysters, and fish and chips. They don't sell drinks, but they do have two drink machines outside. Great food, at great prices. Call before you stop by, they closed early one night we tried.

Assateague Lighthouse

Attraction | "A great view"

Assateague Lighthouse Photo, Chincoteague Island, Virginia
Quote:
Open Apr - Nov from 9 - 3, last tour up at 2:30. Great views of the beach on one side and the marsh on the other. There are seven landings on your way up the 175 steps, so you will have a pretty easy trip up. REMEMBER - I can't stress this enough - if you are visiting during the summer, take a bath in your insect repellant and bring more with you! The mosquitos were relentless while we were at the lighthouse and along the trails, and it was the first week of June.

The best on the island. You can tell because there was always a line out of the door! When you come in the door the smell of warm waffle cones hits you. They also have ice cream cakes and some sugar free varieties.

Open 11 - 10 pm.

Of the two ice cream places we tried, this was not our favorite. Geared more toward sundaes with only vanilla and chocolate to choose from and then toppings. They also had cyclones and milkshakes.

I consider $20+ for seafood and steak expensive; another to consider for lunch or a special occasion. They have a sunset menu until 5:30 with 12 dinners under $12, and a children's menu for under $5. Great views of Assateague Island, the wild horses, and the lighthouse.

The rental company we used for our vacation. Not entirely happy with the service we received. Specifically told them that tv's were important; when we got there there was one tv; hard to entertain 6 people at night with just the one. The internet code that was written on our check in paper was wrong - we managed to find one taped to the back of the tv. Did not have a well stocked kitchen, an electric can opener I think is essential or at least let people know what they might want to bring. Had some additional charges on the credit card after we returned, they still haven't been explained or reverses even though I have made several calls. The trash people for some reason decided not to empty our ...Read More

Very casual atmosphere, with an extensive menu with something for everyone. We ordered two different seafood combo platters and easily had enough food to feed four people. My only complaint was the bones I found in my filleted fish. Good selection for the kids too and very good prices.

While downtown shopping in the antique stores or eating some great seafood, check out the statue of Misty. I read the book Misty of Chincoteague when I was little, and it was great to visit the place where the story took place.

Restaurant | "Italian food"

A long menu, with a lot of different things to choose from besides Italian food. We had chicken parmigian, stuffed shells, and pizza, all very good. The bread was especially good. They seemed to be out of a lot of things both times that we visited - what Italian restaurant runs out of Provolone? Also, the salads were chilled and a little cold to eat right away. They are one of the few places that stays open late, and they have plenty of room for large parties. Prices were good and the portions were big.

We enjoyed this tour the most. He offers the Sea Life Expedition, which is what we went on. 8, 10:30, 1, and 3:30, $35 adult and $30 kids. Captain Barry was very entertaining an dpatient with the kids. They pulled up baskets of minnows, hunted for periwinkles, collected shells, trapped crabs, and touched jellyfish. We went to the bird rookery, and even saw one little bird trying to break out of his shell!

On the dock to the left of the Chincoteague Inn Restaurant.

Barrier Island Holiday!

Best Of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

The Marsh Photo, Chincoteague Island, Virginia
Quote:
Our week long stay started with a ride through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, $12 per car toll fee. The kids were excited and seemed amazed at the thought of going under the water in a tunnel instead of over it on a bridge. As you turn off US 13N onto VA 175 Chincoteague Road, stop at the Food Lion to stock up since there are no grocery stores on the island (unless you stop at the Walmart in Onancock VA or Pocomoke MD). After you cross the draw bridge and come to the stop light, you will be at the intersection of Maddox Blvd. and Main Street, the two main roads. Following Maddox on down will take you to Assateague Island National Park, where you can pay $8 per day, $15 per week, or walk or bike...Read More
