LANZAROTE-A PLEASANT SURPRISEI’m very glad that we chose Lanzarote for our spring holiday. I was surprised by just how much we all enjoyed this holiday and liked this welcoming island. THE CANARY ISLANDS The Canary Islands or Islas Canarias, are owned by Spain. The name has more to do with dogs (dog is 'canis' in Latin) than canaries (as in birds) and there are several theories to the canine link. It is said that the romans encountered many fierce dogs when they invaded, but another theory is that before this the island of Gran Canaria was named after its dog population and another idea is that the islands were named after 'dog seals' inhabiting the sea ...Read More

I remember a little Spanish from school and know that 'El Molino' translates as 'The Mill'On my recent holiday to the Island of Lanzarote, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, I found myself hugely disappointed with the food on offer at our hotel complex. We were staying there on an all-inclusive board basis and so we hadn’t expected to have to eat out too often but as the food was far from great, we did. In fact,we found ourselves going out in the evening and sometimes also for lunch, to eat. It wasn’t so much that the food in our complex was cooked badly but there was very little menu choice and variety overall, and for vegetarians there was no meat-free option at all. My husband, my son...Read More

I recently spent a holiday in Lanzarote, in Spain’s Canary Islands. I hadn’t found much availability with flights and accommodation, as this was the schools half term week in Britain, and the week of the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebration. It was last minute and I wasn’t expecting much from this holiday. I booked a week at the ex-sol owned, Morromar apartments in Puerto del Carmen. Really these apartments are in Matagorda and some distance from the heart of Puerto del Carmen. This holiday was for four adults, I was making a slow recovery from dislocating my knee, and wasn’t expecting to be able to travel far from the complex. However, on arrival at our resort, I was pleased to disc...Read More

WHY THE MORROMAR APARTMENTS? CHECKING IN/RECEPTION We were greeted politely and welcomed to the Morromar apartments which used to belong to the Sol group. I asked if our apartments were close to facilities as requested and was told they were. Wristbands were put on to show we were all inclusive and literature supplied explaining about the all-inclusive facilities, along with a map of the small complex. We asked for the use of a room safe and this was priced at 12 Euro and a further 6 as a deposit. A few steps from reception took us to our apartments which were on the ground floor, as requested and very close to facilities. APARTMENTS...Read More

I’d been toying with having a week away and was deciding where to go when I dislocated my knee so needed to look for somewhere sunny, accessible accommodation served by lift or at ground level and a pool with steps. I booked a holiday at the complex Morromar, formerly a Sol apart-hotel. ACCOMMODATIONOne/two bedroom apartments/studios in two storey blocks. Needed refurbishing inside. POOLSDarts, table-tennis, archery took place near to main pool. he snack bar close by main pool meant loud music. This pool was wasted on me; I couldn’t get in. The steps were in the part sectioned off for children. I thought it could have been sect...Read More
