The perennial favorites are always worth doing--watching the skaters in Central Park, checking out the tree at Rockefeller Center. But after living here for several years, I have a few suggestions for dining, nightlife, and the like that might come in handy when you're ready to start exploring.

Hail a cab, get a subway pass, and get into Soho, Harlem, Tribeca, Chinatown, Nolita, the East Village, the West Village, Chelsea, and the boroughs!
