We stopped in Page, Arizona as part of our road trip around the canyons of the US. The original plan was for us to stop at the nearby Lake Powell Resort, which is the most popular stop on this route because of the proximity to the huge lake which plays host to a vast array of water sports. Since neither of us was too bothered about the Lake itself and because we wanted to treat this more as a quick stopover between Monument Valley on one side and Bryce Canyon on the other, we decided to stay at a cheaper hotel in the nearby town of Page. This Holiday Inn Express turned out to be around half the price and a perfectly pleasant alternative.===Getting There and Arrival===Getting th...Read More

We stopped in Page as part of our road trip around the Canyon area of the US for one night and we wandered along the main street of the small town to find somewhere to eat. There are a surprising number of restaurants for such a small area – maybe it’s thanks to the tourists that the nearby Lake Powell resort and Monument Valley bring in – and we were spoilt for choice. We finally settled on Cherry Seven, which is an Tex-Mex type place that serves both lunch and dinner.Even on a Wednesday night the place was fairly busy and I always find that this is a promising sign. We were given a big American welcome when we entered which was really nice. In fact all of the staff were very good – poli...Read More

Monument Valley was the second stop on our road trip around the National Parks of Arizona and Utah and was probably the one I was most looking forward to. It is absolutely fabulous and definitely worth making the trip to. You see pictures of it everywhere and you have undoubtedly seen it in many a film (remember Tom Cruise abseiling at the beginning of one of the Mission: Impossible films anyone?), but absolutely none of this can prepare you for just how jaw dropping it is in real life.We considered staying near the valley itself originally but then decided against it. If you are planning a road trip, it will probably be from the Grand Canyon to Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley is sort of ...Read More

We stayed in Maswik Lodge as part of our road trip around America’s canyon area. The lodge is the cheapest of the five or so accommodation options within Grand Canyon National Park. It is located on the popular South Rim resort area and it just a quarter of a mile from the edge of the canyon. We only stayed for one night, but thought it was absolutely perfect for what we wanted even though it was the budget option. When you get into the park, you pay a $25 entry fee for the car you are in and all the passengers. This is valid for seven days from entry. With the entry ticket, you get a little newspaper type thing that is a perfect guide to the park. It also contains a map which is pretty han...Read More

When my husband and I did a road trip around the US, the Grand Canyon was our first stop. I have actually been before, but even previous visits can’t prepare you for the breath taking beauty of the place. You’ll need a set of batteries and a memory card for your visit here alone because every step you take brings another wonderful sight and photo opportunity – it simply is that good! We went to the South Rim area known as Grand Canyon Village, which is almost 300km away from Las Vegas, driving along highways and interstates. The drive is very easy (we have never driven abroad before and found it to be a doddle) and the views on the way are great.Entrance to the park is $25 per car, regardl...Read More
