The Lamb Inn

Restaurant | "Lunch at The Lamb"

After a morning wandering around Norwich and not really doing anything constructive, my friend and I had worked up quite an appetite. There are quite a few places to choose from to eat in the city centre but we wanted to avoid the usual suspects like Nando’s or Pizza Express and ventured into The Lamb Inn. The pub is situated in Orford Place which is just off of Red Lion St. The weather was sunny but windy so we elected to take a place inside, but there are lots of outside tables, which are covered in the front courtyard. The pub is very large, with a few nooks and crannies. We sat over on the right hand side as you go in, where there was an alcove containing four or five tables and c...Read More

Denver Windmill

Attraction | "Having the Wind Taken Out of Their Sails"

Quote:
When visiting a friend in Norfolk, he suggested we drove to Denver Windmill, a local fully operational windmill in the area, and as it was on my route home, it would break up my journey. However we were in for a surprise when we arrived, as the windmill was minus its sails! Apparently there was a stress fracture in the metal joint holding the sails together which gave way at the end of 2011 and one of the sails fell off. Thankfully no one was injured and the rest of the sails were taken down for safety reasons. However the mill still works using an engine to mill the flour. There is a small car park here, and we managed to get parked easily. As you go in there is a popular tea room b...Read More

Sandringham in Norfolk is one of HM The Queen’s homes, and its gardens have been open to the public for over 100 years. It was bought for King Edward VII (then Prince of Wales) on the occasion of his marriage to Princess Alexandra in 1862 by Queen Victoria. The original building no longer remains, as the current house was built on its site 1870. It has been a popular retreat for many members of the Royal Family ever since. Our present Queen has opened the house to the public since 1977 and there is also a museum opened by her grandfather George V. It is a working estate and manages a number of farms, the produce of which can be purchased at the visitor centre. Fortunate to have some g...Read More

The Hare Arms

Restaurant | "Posh Pub"

The Hare Arms is a large but pretty country pub in West Norfolk, situated just off the A10 between Downham Market and King’s Lynn. It is signposted from the A10 but you will need to keep your eyes peeled. The pub is situated just up a country lane. I was advised that it was very popular and that if you wanted to eat in the restaurant (particularly on a Saturday which is when I visited) you needed to book. However, as we had been elsewhere beforehand we couldn’t be sure of our timings but checked with the pub and discovered that you can order in the bar section up to 10pm. We arrived at 9pm on a Saturday night and managed to find a place to park. The pub has a large car park but it wa...Read More

Hotel | "A House in the Country"

Lydney House hotel is a former Georgian Merchant's House, based a few minutes walk from the centre of the market town of Swaffham in Norfolk. It is a place that my parents always choose to stay at in the area, and for my step-dad's birthday last summer, I got to visit it too. Swaffham is a pleasant enough town, with a nice church, the shops aren't great and there are a lot of fast food and takeaway type places, but generally it is a good location base for seeing much of Norfolk. The hotel is a family run place and we were greeted by one of the owners, given our keys and shown our rooms. To be honest the décor throughout the hotel is a bit twee and chintzy for my personal taste, but it does...Read More
