Measuring roughly 150 square miles, The Burren is a relatively small region of western Ireland that at first appearance looks to be uninhabitable by any living thing. The fact is, this is one of the richest areas in the country for flora and fauna thanks in large measure to its unique composition and climate. It is believed that man first inhabited this area during prehistoric times. With more than 90 megalithic tombs identified here. The Poulnabrone portal tomb is accessible to visitors and has been dated back to between 4200 BC and 2900 BC. Bronze age relics including jewelry, pottery and weapons have been uncovered here and are believed to be more than 3700 years old.Beca...Read More

Some things you just cannot control or schedule for and weather is one of them! We had our day trip with Galway Tour Company (GTC) scheduled for the only day while in Galway that would work given the other activities and long driving days we expected. Unfortunately for us, it was mostly cloudy throughout our eight hour tour. Worse yet, the rain and strong winds would most affect our time spent at the Cliffs of Moher.Mention going to Ireland to someone who has been, and you'll almost always get a list of "must see" places. Ireland is full of them and now that we've returned, I too have my list to share with anyone wanting another opinion. The Cliffs of Moher are almost always on the li...Read More

Talk to any tourist anticipating a vacation in Ireland and you're sure to hear about their hopes to see sites of history and folklore. Throughout the country, regardless of where you go there is a good chance you will stumble upon unnamed ruins mostly of old stone houses or perhaps a castle or church. We had seen several during our first week of driving, but many who travel to Ireland do not rent a car and leave the driving to a tour company such as Galway Tour Company (GTC).Worked into their "Cliffs of Moher and The Burren" day tour, GTC includes some sights that visitors might not otherwise see. Counties Galway and Clare are rich with historic sights and incorporating them into this t...Read More

During our Galway Tour Company tour to the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and Gus O'Connor's Pub was pretty much on the way making this a good choice to stop for lunch. Our small group of 14 arrived at what seemed to be just before mad rush of tourists even though it was after 1:00pm when we arrived. With 45 minutes to order and get our meals, I was skeptical . . . but it all worked out great as they have it down to a science. We even had some time to walk a few doors away to buy some homemade fudge!Inside, we were instructed to order and pay at one of the two bars inside. We first grabbed a table and menu, then went back up to place our orders. It was late enough in the day that we were all...Read More

Wanting to give David a break in the driving, we scheduled two day tours with motor coach companies. After some research, Galway Tour Company (GTC) of Galway City was the one we chose to go with for a tour of the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren. We could not have been more pleased with the experience. With a scheduled pick up time of 9:30am, we had to leave our cottage in Recess by 8:30am just in case we ran into city traffic in or around Galway. Of course, getting lost thanks to "Toots" our Garmin GPS was also a possibility. She got us to the meeting point of Salthill Hotel where we would park the car for the day without incident so we were actually a little early, but that was OK. We ...Read More
