The first that I heard about Ski Ing Doo was during a conversation in the Cairn Bar whilst we were trying to find somewhere to eat dinner. It took me a while to actually undestand the name of this restaurant, especially when pronounced by the locals. When I had figured out what they were saying, it didn't take them long to convince me to visit here, especially with their talk of large portions, yummy burgers and cheap prices. We were advised to book and so gave them a quick call and got a table booked for that evening.Finding this place is much easier than understanding the locals, as it's just on the main road in Aviemore. It has recently been rennovated, so there is plenty of seating, ev...Read More

La Taverna

Restaurant | "All you can eat pizza and pasta!"

Aviemore has it's fair share of restaurants to choose from, but sometimes you just don't feel like getting dressed up and going somewhere really posh. Likewise if you are a family with small children you perhaps don't want to pay through the nose for an evening meal. Well this is where La Taverna comes in. It's located at the far end of Aviemore, but a short walk from all of the main shops and pubs. The food as you may have guessed is Italian and the prices are low enough for me to want to shout from the rooftops. That isn't to say the food is cheap, I have been here 3 times now and have been impressed every time with the authentic tasting pizza and pasta. We usually arrive without a reservation and h...Read More

Attraction | "A great way to see the mountain!"

G2 Outdoor is a company based in Aviemore that caters for all sorts of outdoor sports, from skiing and snowboarding lessons in the winter to ziplining, gorge walking and white water rafting in the summer. It is perfectly located to take advantage of the fantastic natural playground of the Cairnogorm National Park and is well worth a visit for young and old alike. My advice firstly, would be to book an activity in advance of your visit to the area, because they are often very busy in the peak tourist season. The company has a wealth of instructors that are all highly trained in all things outdoor, so you know that you are in safe hands. On our last visit to Aviemore we decided to have a go a...Read More

A visit to Aviemore isn't complete without a trip up the Cairngorm Mountain. Whether you're a skier, walker, climber, family with small children or just sightseers it's well worth the drive up. The furthest point that you can get to in a car is known as the Base station and from here you can get the funicular up to the Top station. There are often things going on at the Base station and in and around the mountain, so you never really know what you might find. The last visit we had, there was a Christmas market going on with lots of crafty bits and pieces to buy. The jewel in the Base Station's crown, however, is the Cas Bar, which is located inside the Day Lodge. The Cas Bar is the perfect...Read More

Hotel | "A traditional Scottish hotel with a cracking bar!"

Aviemore is a pretty small town, some locals call it a village, that is set up to cater for the locals and tourists that live in a visit the Cairngorm National Park every year. If you have never been to this part of Scotland then you truly are missing out. It is epically beautifully and the locals are more than friendly, they welcome you as one of their own and are soon japing around with you. Luckily for us we have some family that live in Aviemore, so we can visit pretty much whenever time off allows. A mainstay of any of our visits is at least one evening in the bar of the Cairn as it is locally known. Most nights of the week there is something going on in the hotel bar, be it live sport...Read More
