On the way home from a trip to Toronto we decided to stop off at Pickering Town Centre which is a large indoor mall. It is located right off the 401, so is easy to get to with plenty of free parking. This Hampton Inn is relatively new and is located about fifteen minutes drive from Pearson Airport. It sits next door to another Hilton brand hotel, the Homewood Suites, both share a car park.

The lobby is clean and welcoming and when we checked in we were greeted by a receptionist who booked us in and gave us card keys to a room on the top floor (7th).

We took the elevator to the seventh floor and it arrived very quickly and was pretty fast, but smooth. We found our room but could not get the key to work. We tried both, but to no avail. I then had to go all the way back down to reception and told the receptionist that they did not work. He asked if I was sure and I said yes, I had tried both, but neither worked. He took them from me and punched a few keys on the computer and then gave a knowing nod. He then presumably reprogrammed them and handed them back to me. He said that they should work okay now, but did not apologize which was a little annoying. Upon returning to the top floor the keys did thankfully work.

The room was smaller than many Hampton Inns we had stayed at, but was fresh and clean. The decor was brown and blue which was nice. There was a king bed with side tables. The 37 inch flat screen TV sat upon a unit which had some small drawers and a fridge under it. On the hotel website it mentions that the TV is HD. This is indeed true, however only three channels are HD: Oasis, CTV and NBC. On our TV we could not get CTV in HD, so only had the two HD channels. There were around twenty other SD channels, but no film channels or on-demand film options.

The room also had a desk with lamp and mirror and a chair. There was also an armchair and an ottoman. Our room looked south towards Toronto city and we had a lovely view of the sunrise in the morning.

The bathroom was the usual set up with granite counter, basin, coffee maker, a large shower, no tub and of course a toilet. The towels were the usual small hotel towels. In the evening I found the shower to be on the warm rather than hot side even when pushed to the very hottest setting. In the morning it was a little hotter, but not piping hot, if that is what you like.

We found the air con unit under the window to be quite noisy and it woke us up in the night. The fridge was also very noisy and you could hear dripping water most of the time. This was a shame as we could hear no noise from outside such as planes or traffic. All the noise came from inside the room itself.

Breakfast is included in the room price and this was pretty good. They had cereals, fruit, muffins, waffles, bread and juice. Hot items were available and on this occasion were scrambled egg, bacon and baked beans. Tea and coffee was also available 24/7.

Overall the hotel is fine for a short stay and is within good proximity to the airport. The hotel offers transport to and from the airport should you need it and it also offer packages allowing you to park you car for the duration of your holiday. Included in the room price is parking, internet access and breakfast, so good value. Read Less
