Restaurant | "Fresh Seafood in the Fort, really? Yes!"

Fish Photo, Fort Collins, Colorado
Quote:
Fish restaurant opened in 2001 and brings fresh seafood to Fort Collins, Colorado. My husband and I go every month or two. In the interest of full disclosure, 7 years ago a roommate of mine worked there and I would hang out with chowdaw at the bar and met the owner. His wife has known my husband since before Fish opened. If we didn't love it, we wouldn't go back. It's a bonus that it's owned by a cool local family, "not some sucky corporate chain". Start off with a homemade margarita or glass of wine, oysters or calamari and start making decisions like specials or menu dish, fresh spring salad or chowder (with bread and flavored butters). The menu is creative, with ever-c...Read More

Despite a public negative review from a local food "critic", actually because of it, I was anxious to return to one of my favorites. Shocked to read "bland, greasy, mushy, and tasted like cafeteria food", I just had to see if it could have possibly gone so far downhill since my last visit only a few months ago to warrant being described as "slop" in the newpaper. With the review fresh on my mind, Mt Everest popped into my head for last minute dinner plans on February 14. I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day (actually forbid overpriced flowers and cards) and we always say we are going to stay home and cook. As often happens after working all day, we end up going out to a local, non-fancy type place. ...Read More

Cafe de Bangkok

Restaurant | "Tempting Thai Tastes"

I've been a regular Thai food eater since getting out of the Midwest over a decade ago. My weekly addiction is now down to once or twice a month, well that is until Fort Collins got another decent Thai joint that delivers. Not an expert by any means but it seems my favorite places usually are in strip malls with cooks that are the real deal. According to their website, Pu is from Bangkok. So far, I'd say her ingredients and her cooking certainly are the real deal. If you were a fan of the previous Thai restaurant here and still have it saved in your phone, the number is the same.West of campus in a run down strip mall with head shops and the plasma donation center has been 3 places in at...Read More

Not talking about sleeping late but feel free to wear pj's if the mood strikes. Soon to celebrate it's second anniversary, Snooze, an A.M. Eatery in Fort Collins still draws crowds lining up to eat the inventive breakfast and brunch items. Cocktails and coffee are served weekdays starting at 6:30am and a half hour later on Saturday and Sunday. They compost, support sustainable farmers and give back to local charities in the communities where there restaurants are located. No corporate soda or java here. It's often called "hipster" or "trendy". Call it what you will there are now 5 locations up and down the front range so they must be doing something right. That something is serving up swee...Read More

Mo Jeaux's Bar & Grill

Restaurant | "Meat n Three, Please!"

West of campus, this bar/restaurant serves up good food, drinks specials and has a couple TVs for the sports fans. Laid back bar, "jam band" tunes and well done Cajun & Southern grub. They have live music some nights, outdoor patio and pool tables in the back. They really went over the top on the last visit by sending someone to the liquor store to buy a bottle of good tequila to replace the one someone drained the night before. Now that's good service!BBQ sandwiches and burgers are under $10 while my standard order of the "Brady's meat and three" is under $15. Food is served until midnight on weekends but we tend to go early and leave stuffed. Well-known for smoked win...Read More

Souza's Smokin BBQ

Restaurant | "BBQ Pork Succeeds while Side Dishes Fail"

Souza's Smokin BBQ Photo, Fort Collins, Colorado
Quote:
This small strip mall BBQ joint is on it's third set of owners in just as many years. The first parking lot smoke tender was Raymond, then it became Souza's and those owners sold to the current owners. Tried it a few times with each owner and consistently thought the pork was like Cinderella and the sides were the nasty, ugly step-sisters.Couldn't understand all the rave reviews so I would go back and try it again, still everything was below mediocre except for the pork (salty chicken, dry brisket and those blah sides). Heard new owners took over but I wasn't expecting much. Honestly, I was going to give it one last shot before I wrote it off (husband wouldn't give them another shot bu...Read More
