Table Table –The Water Bridge – Uttoxeter, StaffordshireMy husband and I went for lunch to this restaurant one Saturday as I was doing a Mystery shop so it would not normally have been one we would have chosen. This is a modern restaurant next to the Premier Inn on the Derby Road just on the outskirts of Uttoxeter and one of the Table Table chain. As you enter the place you come straight into the main restaurant but we went to the left towards the bar area to wait to be seated. We were very quickly greeted by a member of staff who was able to take us to a table which was in a nice quite area of the restaurant with a bit of privacy rather than in the middle of the room....Read More

The Royal OakHanging BridgeMayfieldNr AshbourneDerbyshireDE6 2BNTelephone: 01335 300090We didn’t plan to go to this pub for lunch, we had actually booked into another one further into the village of Mayfield but when we got there it was closed. We had only ever previously been to this pub for our daughter’s wedding reception which was in the annex building. They had catered for the wedding themselves as our ex son in law was a chef so we had not tried the pub’s food. This pub is on the Asbourne to Leek road just before Mayfield near Hanging bridge and if you felt energetic you could walk from Ashbourne as it isn’t too far along the road....Read More

The Saracen's Head

The Saracen's Head Pub, Shirley near Ashbourne, Derbyshire This pub is in the village of Shirley about five miles from Ashbourne just off the A52 and about twelve miles from Derby coming from the other direction on the A52. Just out of interest the Shirley near Birmingham also has a pub called the Saracen's Head so don't get this confused as that is not exactly a small English country village pub. This pub is one I have known for well over thirty years and I have seen it go through several changes and about half a dozen landlords, some good, some average and pretty awful. The present landlord has a reputation in our area for his food and has made a name ...Read More

Three Horseshoes Pub, Long Lane Village near Ashbourne, DerbyshireWHERE IS THE PUB?This village pub is just six miles north west of Derby and about 5 miles from Ashbourne but is off the main road and right on Long Lane which the village is named after. This pub is just a few miles from our village and is one we go to regularly as they have a quiz every Tuesday which we love. Apart from our weekly visit we do go and enjoy meals there e from time to time too as it just has a really lovely friendly, true English pub atmosphere about it. A BIT ABOUT THE PUB AND VILLAGEThis pub is unusual in that it is owned by the village and this is probably why there is such a lo...Read More

Restaurant | "Not a Bridge too far here"

The Bridge, Ashbourne, DerbyshireThis restaurant has undergone many name changes and re inventions over the years I have lived around Ashbourne. I really can’t remember what it was when I was at school way back but at one time it was trendy bar, and then it became less so, it then became a really nice cafe and light meal place and now the front is a really relaxing bar and at the back a rather smart restaurant. We rarely head into Ashbourne to eat as there are so many lovely restaurants in Derby with a more ethnic variety of food which we love. This restaurant is usually quite expensive as the food is locally sourced and excellent quality and as always you pay extra for that....Read More
