There is a huge play park which is located on the sea front in Ayr. It is around a 15minute walk from the shopping area in Ayr and looks out over the water (and the beach).

The park has been open for years and is an ideal place to relax whilst your children have some fun and tire themselves out. The park is enclosed with a fence and is split into various sections depending on the age group of the children visiting. There is a stair area for relaxing with some food or ice cream. There is an ice cream van selling various cones and treats just outside the park and fish and chip shops are located nearby. You could also take a picnic.

There is a huge grassy area next to the park and also an indoor play centre (charges apply). During peak times, there are a few rides outside the park and bouncy castles.

The park itself is huge and definently worth a visit when the weather is pleasant. It is well kept and clean throughout. There is a huge area for older children consisting of a huge climbing net where lots of kids can scramble on. There is a set of wooden towers with connecting platforms, nets and various shaped chutes. Most of the area is wood chipped or floored to provide a safer environment.

The area designated for younger children is housed in with wooden logs and features a sand floor. It isn't a massive area and when there are lots of toddlers running around, it can get cramped. There is a few bouncy things, swings and climbing frames with chutes attached. There is also a bridged area with climbing rocks and children really do need to be fully supervised as this area is at a hilly bit.

We love this park. I used to go here as a child and whilst it has changed a bit, it is still worth the long walk down to the seafront. It looks a sorry sight on a wet and windy day but when the sun is out, it is really lively. As we now visit with our son, we mainly keep to the toddler area but having an older nephew, we experience both ends of the park. It is difficult to keep an eye on a few children if in different areas as they are spaced quite far apart.

My son and his cousin love the toddler area and I would say it is ideal for up to 5 or 6 as my neice prefers it there as the other area requires you to do climbing and she only has tiny legs. It wouldn't be hard for children to knock each other out the way but the construction of the wooden towers is good. Just do not go down the chutes when it has been raining. Pretty simple but I did it for a giggle 3years ago and feel off the end and badly damaged my back so I don't find it so funny now!

The smaller area is nice and compact. The sand allows for a protective flooring if a child were to fall and makes reasonable sand castles too (but I'd recommend the beach for better sand!) There is enough here to entertain and the park is better than standard climbing frame and swing parks. Everything is of a high quality and arranged well to allow children to get the most from their fun time at the park.

We could easily spend an hour or two here on a good day and often Ryan is too tired to walk back to the train station! We usually go after our lunch (always fish and chips). The ice cream van is reasonable priced (about £1.20 for a cone) and the ice cream is delicious so I recommend a little treat there.

Cannot fault this play park. It is free and really cool!

There is something to suit all ages in Golden Disc. The arcade is well presented and offers a host of flashing lights and amusement style noises to tempt you in. It isn't as buzzing as the arcades in Blackpool though as is a bit more subtle. It is clean and tidy but the toilets aren't amazing as there is never any soap.

The arcade can be accessed through 2 entrances. One entrance leads you to the snack counter and a few table booths. You can buy chips, hot dogs, juice and various sweet treats such as lollies and candyfloss here. The prices are reasonable and we managed to get 2 hot dogs, 2 portions of chips, a bottle of cola, a fruit shoot and some sweets for under £10.00. The food is tasty and service is quick. There are various change machines dotted around the arcade and a booth which is always staffed and stocked with change for the machines.

The arcade has changed quite a bit since I visited as a child. There used to be a trampoline play area but this is no longer there. There is an area for over 18's which includes around 12 slot machines. These cost 30p a shot and give you a chance of getting up on a board to win more money. I have never managed it yet! I prefer the main area where I like playing the 10p slot machines. The range of machines includes fruit machines, Monopoly style and Bar X machines. They are fun but it is easy to spend too much. I limit myself now and spend only a few pounds.

There is an area with your typical push machines where you can use 2ps and 10ps which is always fun and we always get a pound of change for this purpose. The arcade extends backwards and more fruit machines and interactive machines are present. These don't interest us but there is a Guitar Hero game where 2 can play and this is fun at £1 a shot.

There is lots for younger children to have turns on though at 50p-£1.00 per shot, the costs soon mount up and moreso if you have a few children with you. My son wants on everything usually but settles for his favourite little rides after we give him a bag of coins to use. There is a Postman Pat van which gives a short and uninspiring bout of movement for 50p. There is a bus which 3 children could fit in (trust me I managed to get 3 in), a Mr Blobby ride and a few others. Typical little rides you normally see in arcades and nothing particularly special.

The arcade is decent enough though nothing spectacular. It is ok to spend 30mins in before heading for lunch or to the park and I can recommend it for a bit of fun.

Ayr is a coastal town in Scotland. It has a huge beach which runs from the River Doon to the River Ayr. The beach is around a 15minute walk from the shopping area of Ayr. Local attractions include various fish and chip shops, a huge play park and sports centre.

We visit Ayr twice a year and usually once during the Summer if there is ever a sunny day in Scotland! The beach is a great length and runs from the harbour all the way along the coastline. If it isn't a pleasant day we often walk along the promenade which gives amazing reviews over the water without getting sand in your shoes! It is a scenic walk which is very relaxing and normally quiet as the road rarely seems busy.

The beach itself is beautifully clean and well maintained. The walls, steps and ramps are in great condition and safety is key. I have never been when the tide has been fully in but when it goes out it extends far and reveals a gorgeous golden sand beach. It is pretty and not covered in dirt or seaweed. When sunny, we like to wander down to the beach and walk from one end to the other.

The sand is soft for the most part. When drenched with water and left to settle, most of the sand turns damp and dark with a worm like appearance! I find this hard to walk on without my shoes! Pools of water form around the beach which is natural but I feel it spoils the overall look of the beach. I'm not keen on sand between my toes but this sand is nice enough. There is occasionally some pretty shells to collect which we like to do when we visit.

The water is freezing and apparently safe to swim in when the tide is low and the weather nice. It does get choppy when there is rain and winds but I wouldnt think anyone would go near the beach at this time! When it is sunny and warm, we like to paddle in the shallow area of the water. I find that this is sufficient water for us to play about in without risking going further in. Be careful though as we spotted a rather large jelly fish nearly enough on the sand and I wouldn't have wanted any of us to stand on that!

The sand is perfect for building sand castles. The sand mixed with some water makes it very easy to scoop and mould into a bucket and build various castles and forts. Buckets and spades can be bought in various shops in Ayr. The beach is the ideal place for picnics and simply relaxing. When its a scorcher of a day, the beach is really busy with families with beach towels and baby tents. The perfect way to spend a few hours before heading for fish and chips, ice cream and spending some time at the play park.

I can recommend Ayr beach for whether you want a relaxing walk, a jog along the shore, a picnic or a splash in the water. Read Less

The square features a gravel path way which connects each entrance to each other. Benches are dotted around the park. There are large strips of plain grass and various flower beds.

I think Wellington Square is a beautiful area of Ayr and somewhere that we either pass by or walk through each time we are in the town. It is ideal to wander through prior to arriving at the sea front and is very clean and well presented. The square isn't massive but nice to walk through. The surrounding buildings are white washed and compliment the bright colouring of the square in my opinion.

The grass is always neat and fresh in appearance so is ideal to place a shawl down on to have a picnic. It isn't ideal for playing ball games on an I do believe this isn't allowed anyway. For this purpose, there is a huge green across the road from the square. The court building overshadows the square giving a formal look.

The square is spacious though I used to find it difficult to push the pram through the gravel so I would imagine a wheelchair would have the same issue. The statues are pleasant to look at and add a bit of history to the square. The war memorial statue is huge and has steps leading up to it. It is made out of a marble type stone.

During the spring, the flowers blossom and look beautiful. They are so well maintained within their soil beds. I am no flower expect but can recognise tulips. They are beautifully bright and look lovely. My brother in laws friend had their wedding pictures taken in the square and they looked amazing.

We often have a picnic or fish and chips lunch in Wellington Square. The square is rife with seagulls during nicer weather which is a nightmare as they are huge and will swoop for any food they see (trust me I became their victim during the summer just past). Even when busy there is plenty of bench spare and bins never overflow. The square has an enclosed feel which feels relaxed and I enjoy just sitting and having a bite to eat before moving on.

A visit or wander through Wellington Square is free and I can recommend it if in Ayr area. Read Less
