I know there are a lot of reasons to visit the Spanish Steps in Rome - and many people have their own. If you're really keen to see the famous spot used in films and adds and with a certain sentimentality attached. And I suspect many people want to visit it just to say they've seen it. And I can't say that it's not impressive in it's own way. The problem is - it's so completely packed with people, tourists, and vendors that there's no real way to appreciate it. Of all the selection of tourist spots I visited in Rome, this one I found to be the most overcrowded and with the pushiest vendors. This may have just been my own experience, and even so it was a much easier experience than I'...Read More

There were three big tourist sites in Rome that stole my heart despite the crowded, tourist atmosphere of them. The first was the Colloseum - how could you not love such an awe inspiring place? The second was the Vatican - for reasons I will go into much more specifically in that review and the third was Piazza Navona. One of the more famous Piazzas in a city filled with beautiful squares - I put it on my Rome To Do List as something to see if we got the chance or were passing by,. I didn't want to get caught up running from tourist attraction to tourist attraction paying inflated prices and dealing with crowds in such a welcoming, atmospheric city as Rome, but there were a few it seeme...Read More

So - on the big list for Rome, after Vatican City and the Colloseaum, what next? Well - for many the answer to that question is Trevi Fountain. The stunning 85 foot high fountain is one of the most famous in the world. Finished in 1762 - the fountain really is a stunning example of the art in Rome, and something I could hardly suggest shouldn't be seen on a visit to the city, even if architecture is not your thing. However - I do have to also mention that the Trevi Fountain marks one of the tourist attractions which is so profoundly overcrowded with tourists that it gives the city a reputation for being unpleasantly crowded and hard to visit. I have to say that I didn't find this to b...Read More

In every city there are things on the list that really must be seen. Even if you're not a fan of the tourist trail - or like to see things that are more out of the way...you really can't visit the likes of Paris without making an attempt to see the Eiffel Tower. Rome is a city of many wonders - and it would be hard to narrow it down to one, single fundamental 'Must See' attraction. But for me - if I had to do that - I think it would probably have to be the Colosseum. Few sights instantly bring more awe - or say 'Rome' in quite the same way as this magnificent ruin. You never know what to expect with these ancient sites in modern cities - and I admit I had half expected to find a crumbling old Co...Read More

I didn't feel I could begin a review of the different components of my trip to Rome and how they rates without first giving an overview of my general experience of Rome itself. In my experience it's a highly underrated city (for all it's history and grandeur) and I wanted to share a little of my own feelings about the place that has become one of the golden, shining moments in my treasure trove of travelling memories. I ended up on my honeymoon in Rome completely by accident. My wedding was originally set to be in Malta and the honeymoon was going to compile of a ferry ride to Sicily and a week spent there in the hills of Taormina. However - with some of the mishaps common t...Read More
