Edinburgh Rock

An October 2001 trip to Edinburgh by AndiJW

A brief trip to a city that has been a 'must do' location for a very long time, has spurred me to visit again. A powerful sense of belonging from the moment of arrival - be rocked by Edinburgh!

Overview

A visit to the castle on a windy but clear day is a memorable moment indeed. Get a sense of what it must have been like for the artillery who were stationed around the walls in all kinds of weather! You can tour the castle with a free audio guide that has a wealth of information both about the history of the castle and the lives of the Royals who inhabited it.

A visit to the castle is not cheap, at £7.50 for adults, but you cannot leave Edinburgh without seeing its castle. A walk in the park below the castle is also a must in autumn when the squirrels are hunting for food! There are hundreds of them running around and they are tame enough to sniff your hand or feed from it!

Quick Tips:

To best soak in the atmosphere of Edinburgh, take a stroll in the early evening when the traffic is less busy and the streets are quieter. People associate Edinburgh with the festival and Hogmany, but it has mush to offer at other times of the year as well.

Best Way To Get Around:

A red carpet leads to the discreet hotel entrance, a small gold plaque to declare it''s prescence.

Upon entering reception, you are greeted with a tinkling of the piano being played in the lounge, and flickering candle lamps to create a distingusihed ambiance.

The rooms are well-catered, extremely clean and of a very high quality. If you include breakfast with your stay, it is a satisfying start to the day with plenty to choose from the varied buffet.

To relax and unwind after a day''s exploring in Edinburgh, there is a gym, pool and sauna, open from early to late so you can fit it into your schedule.
