The Hoover DamI have wanted to visit this dam ever since learning about this dam and how it was part of the New Deal so when we were driving from the Grand Canyon through to Las Vegas along Route 66 for part of the journey, we stopped in as we passed by.I think one of the most impressive views was from the new very high road bridge across the canyon of the Colorado river. This bridge is a wonder in itself as it is so high giving a fabulous view of the dam. It is officially called the  Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge  and is a whopping 890 feet high spanning the  Colorado River canyon . During the construction of this bridge 1,200 workers and 300 engineers were empl...Read More

I have been lucky enough to go to this amazing place twice and have not written about it because it really is hard to capture the feel and beauty of the place in a review. It is somewhere that just takes your breathe a way when you first see it. Even on my second visit I was still 'wowed' by my first view of the canyon despite having seen it before. I went about five years ago with my husband and we took a Papillon helicopter ride over the Canyon.I did find it a bit nerve wreaking just flying over the canyon rim but the views were worth the tension though .Once I got used to the fact that the helicopter does bounce around just like a plane when there are air currents I was able...Read More

Monument ValleyThis was fairly high on our list of places to see on our road trip as we had enjoyed many films with scenes in this valley. We stayed in a small motel in Mexican Hat and so had the chance to drive through the Navaho Tribal Park on one day and then we got up early on the second day and made our way to the famous road and took some photos in the morning light when no one was around. My daughter and husband also decided to' run like Forrest' down the middle of the road for a photo too!On the first day we made our way to the visitor centre and from here you can take a tour with a guide in a 4x4 at the rather exorbitant price of $75 for two hours or pay ju...Read More

The Blue Coffee Pot,KayentaWe were passing through Kayenta from San Juan on our way to the Grand Canyon having visited the Four Corner’s Monument the day before so we were in the heart of Navaho Nation and in Navaho county. The Navaho name for the town is "Tó Dinéeshzhee".This is the area written about by Hillerman in his books, specifically ‘The Skinwalkers’ which I read and reviewed recently. There is very little around in the area and the towns are few and far between so when we arrived in Kayenta we knew this is where we would be stopping for our coffee break as there wouldn’t be another town for some time.Kayenta is a smallish town but has a population of about 5,000 how...Read More

Bright Angel Lodge and CabinsWHY CHOOSE BRIGHT ANGEL?There are few options for places to stay within the Grand Canyon National Park and this is situated in the prime location for some of the best views of the South Point which is one of the most popular spot to view the Grand Canyon. This lodge is also the oldest of those available. We have stayed at the Bright Angel twice in the last few years and not a lot has changed in that time except the price.I have mentioned that Bright Angel is the oldest accommodation within the Grand Canyon National Park and was the only place at one time. It was designed by the architect Mary E.J. Colter in 1935 and has a distinctly rustic ca...Read More
