Hotel | "Bowden Hall for the perfect romantic break"

Everybody needs a little bit of spoiling and pampering now and again. I was certainly spoiled when I was whisked away for a two night break at a posh hotel. The location for my treat was the four star Bowden Hall Hotel.Bowden Hall Hotel is located in the pretty but dormitory like village of Upton St Leonards three miles outside of Gloucester city centre. We took a taxi from Gloucester's railway station which took roughly ten minutes and cost £10. The number 5 bus from Gloucester bus station passes through Upton St Loeonardd and its a five minute walk from the bus stop to the hotel. I must say I was overwhelmed at my first glimpse of Bowden Hall when the taxi drew ...Read More

One of my great memories of visitant Gloucester was a pub crawl round of the city's many historic pubs. Firs off was another beautifully patterned timbered building in Southgate street. Robert Raikes Inn is another Tudor building and a really beautiful spacious pub. It's also a Sam Smith's pub so character and cheap beer suited me perfectly. Its named after Robert Raikes, the founder of the Sunday School movement who lived there in the 18th century. I find it quite ironic that his former house is now a pub, as he is the type of person who would be teetotal.Moving north to Northgate Street we found the new inn which is a misnomer as it is rater old. The New Inn is set in a courtyar...Read More

One of the strangest places I have ever visited was Gloucester. Don't get me wrong I'm not meaning that in nasty way, as I found it quite a pleasant place with some beautiful historic buildings but I also found it almost stuck in a time warp when I spent a couple of days there last month. It is is a city in the historical definition with its fabulous medieval cathedral but nowadays it is very much a West Country back water with the feel of faded gentility and past glories. Gloucester has a long history due to its strategic defensive position close to both the Welsh border and the mouth of the River Severn making it one of the first places to ford the river. The Roman's f...Read More

. My fiance, his family and I recently attended a wedding in the Cotswolds and luckily for us the B and b we stayed at for to nights lived up to our expectations. This was Holly House in the very picturesque town of Bourton on the Water. We really had a lovely stay at this comfortable guest house. Holly House is quite a small intimate B and B with six comfortable bedrooms housed in a lovely Cotswolds stone detached house. I did not actually book the B and B so can not comment on the ease of booking but I have looked at the website and it looks easy to book on line. Rooms vary between £70 and £85 per night which whilst not cheap sounds about right for such a popular and touristy area. At th...Read More
