Corfu is an Ionian islands which lies to the west of mainland Greece. The Ionian islands are situated in the Ionian Sea (or Adriatic Sea). There are seven main islands and several lesser ones. Corfu is one of the better known of these. It is a long and thin island in shape (approx. 36 miles in length and 15 miles in width.) I have now visited several Greek islands, as well as mainland Greece, and have enjoyed every visit. Corfu is quite different in feel; say from Crete, being smaller and with more of a British influence embedded in its history. Corfu had been controlled by Venice, avoided may Turkish attacks, before coming under British rule after the Napoleonic Wars. Corfu is lush and fe...Read More

Story/Tip

Halkidiki Photo - Chalkidiki, Greece

For many years my family’s holidays took place in England, and very enjoyable they were too. Then a time came when we were able to spend a little more on holidays and also, to be honest, it helped when the eldest two were off on their own holidays, leaving only the younger two of our brood to take away with us. We visited some places around the Mediterranean and had some lovely holidays, but it took a while to convince my husband that he would enjoy going to places Greek. Eventually he gave in and we have now visited places such as Crete, Corfu and Cyprus (alright Cyprus isn’t really a Greek island but the regions that we have been to are essentially Greek) and Halkidiki. I looked in trave...Read More

I booked a holiday at the Louis Corycra Beach Hotel as a late autumn break for myself, my husband, our youngest son and youngest daughter, both just about grown, up, and my father who is in his seventies. We stayed at this four star hotel, on an all-inclusive basis for one week. I can't remember the exact price, but I did a lot of searching for a decent price and I believe it came to around the £500 to £600 price per person. I booked two rooms. TRAVEL TIME We flew from London's Gatwick airport. The flight from here takes about three hours. On arriving at Corfu airport we were greeted by rain. I wasn't too worried as I figure if you holiday in autumn you ha...Read More

When I holidayed at this hotel it was then exclusive to British travellers through First Choice Holidays. There were other nationalities staying here. Our group consisted of me, my husband and our two teenaged children. TRANSFER The transfer was lengthy being between one and a half hours plus from Heraklion airport' I don't mind this as on the way to the hotel it provides a good view of a new country. As it was daytime we had a good view of Crete and realised it's a large island. RECEPTION The check in wasn’t too lengthy just a few details gone over and all inclusive bands put around wrists. Staff were efficient. Reception was well manned. ...Read More

The hotel Theophano Imperial Palace Hotel was formerly known as Hotel Villa Princess Theophano. TRANSFER /RECEPTION We flew with First Choice from Gatwick to Thessaloniki. We enjoyed the sites from the air conditioned coach. There was plenty to see when driving through towns and villages, as Greece is something of a night owl. Once reaching our hotel we were checked in. Reception weren't particularly friendly. We had a problem with our room (their mistake) and It seemed as if reception staff forgot their former linguistic skills when approached by us. This problem was sorted out by the First Choice rep who was very persistent on our behalf. ACCOMODATION ...Read More
