The Cornerhouse

Attraction | "Lots under one roof!"

Quote:
When I first moved to Nottingham, I didn't know the Cornerhouse even existed let alone what it actually was. I had heard people mention it before but was a bit baffled and didn't think to look into it any further. It wasn't until a friend and I decided to go to the cinema there that I had to figure out where and what it was. You can find the Cornerhouse on the corner of Burton Street and South Sherwood Street in the city centre, not far from the main street which is Parliament Street if you have never been there before. When people talk about the Cornerhouse, sometimes they can be referring to a whole area. Next to the actual building are a lot of restaurants and instead of using a street ...Read More

Nottingham Goose Fair

Attraction | "A great fair!"

Quote:
Nottingham's Goose Fair is one of the largest travelling fairs in Europe and has now been going for 717 years! Originally, the fair was used for trade, instead of entertainment but it is now more well known for the mass of rides that it brings with it and it also used to be held in the Market Square. This year, 2011, the fair ran from 5th - 9th October and it is now held at the Forest Recreation Ground. Although I had been to the recreation ground previously, I didn't quite realise just how much land there was. As I got off the tram, the whole site was lit up from the rides and stalls and it was all I could see. At the entrance to the fair, the smell of fair food hit me instantly and I rem...Read More

Victoria Centre

Attraction | "An ok shopping centre!"

Quote:
After moving to Nottingham for university, one of the first things I wanted to check out was how good the shopping facilities were going to be. I love a good day out shopping either with the girls or on my own if I'm in that kind of mood and one of the first things I checked out was the shopping centres. Nottingham does have two shopping centres, the Victoria Centre and Broadmarsh and both are quite large. == Quick history of the Victoria Centre == This shopping centre stands on the old Nottingham Victoria railway station which was demolished in 1967. The build of the shopping centre took place between 1967 and 1972, which makes it only 39 years old. On top of the original build, an ...Read More

Attraction | "Best salon experience ever"

I’m quite bad when it comes to looking after my hair. Although it has been extremely long for years, it hasn’t been in the best of conditions recently. Hairdressers scare me to be quite honest. Once I had a haircut that went terribly wrong and they cut way more off than I asked them to. Ever since then, I am weary about who cuts my hair. After working an insane amount of overtime last month, I decided to treat myself and get it sorted before going on holiday. Since moving to Nottingham, I hadn’t had my hair cut so I had to search for somewhere new. David Sebastian Salons was who I ended up picking. == Why I chose this salon == After wandering around the city centre for a couple of ho...Read More

Attraction | "Amazing place for a walk"

Recently, I have taken up photography again after having a massive break from it. A friend has been extremely encouraging and it has motivated/ inspired me to get out there again and have another go at it! Living in Nottingham means there are plenty of places to go to take photos but until recently, I had no idea there were so many beautiful places. One of my first outings with my camera led me to Colwick Country Park after finding it online. As I don't drive, I had to figure out how to get to Colwick on the bus. Coming from the city centre, you will need to catch the number 44 bus from either King Street or just outside Boots near the Victoria Centre and the buses run every 8 to 9 minutes...Read More
