OUR SUITE:Our "suite" was a short walk across the garden from the main lodge where breakfast was offered. This meant we were pretty private. Our lovely balcony had a really good sized table and chairs and we enjoyed eating out there looking at the view of the surrounding area. Sunset over the red rock area was particularly lovely from here.As you enter the front door you walk straight into the lounge/diner./kitchen and this was quite a good size. The sofa and chairs were very comfortable, not that modern looking but okay and this area was carpeted. There was a large flat screen TV on the wall which didn’t get a lot of use hwen we were there but did work okay. The dining table and ch...Read More

Kelly Place bed & BreakfastCortezColoradoWe booked this place just outside Cortez quite some time before we left England as we knew we were planning a visit to Mesa Verde National Park and wanted to stay a night before we went into the park and then another on the day of the visit. We looked at several places but this appealed as it was self catering and set in really lovely grounds. We booked on line and paid a deposit of $230 with the remaining amount to pay when we got there and we had a confirmation email back so we were all set.WHY CHOOSE KELLY PLACE?Kelly Place is twenty miles from the entrance of Mesa Verde National Park and forty six miles from th...Read More

Cliff Dwellings Tours

Attraction | "Climbing like a Mountain goat"

We visited three cliff dwellings in the Mesa Verde National ParkCLIFF PALACEThis cliff dwelling is open from April 10 to November 12 and it can only be visited as part of a ranger guided tour with a pre purchased ticket $3 per person bought from the Far Visitor Centre. The tour takes about an hour and you must be at the Cliff Dwelling at least ten minutes before your ticket tour time. Distances in the park are quite long and so you must plan your visits carefully. The Cliff Palace is about 8 miles and they suggest that this can take about 30 minutes to drive from the Far Visitor Centre and then you have to park your car and get to the meeting area for the tour....Read More

Four Corners Monument

Attraction | "Stand in Four States at the same time"

Quote:
FOUR CORNERSThis is the only place in the USA where four states meet and the Navaho people who own the land in the area have created a monument where you can have your hands and feet in each of four states and have your photo taken. The four states that meet at this point are Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. Apart from the monument which has been constructed as a tourist attraction there is nothing around her. It is pretty much desert and not especially scenic. The original marker was erected in 1912 and this was a simple cement pad, but now it is a very sleek granite and brassmarker. The Visitor Center is open year round with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas...Read More

THE HOT SPRINGSThis is why we chose to stay so we headed down the hill with our costumes tucked under our arms as we were told towels were provided. Our pool visit was included in our room price but it is possible to just come here to use the hot spring pools. The changing rooms were not that easy to find as the place was being refurbished and we had to get around a small digger and a lot of plastic fencing but once we arrived we soon found the appropriate rooms and where to get towels from and we were set.Once again it was not as easy as just finding a pool and hopping in. There was one large pool just near the changing rooms but if you wanted the quieter 2 Relaxati...Read More

Mount Princeton Hot Springs, Nathrop, ColoradoWe stayed at this resort on our way down from Rapid City through to Las Vegas. We wanted to visit the hot springs that are famous in Colorado and when we discovered you could stay at this one and it wasn’t too far out of our way we decided to book a night there. The night before this we stayed in Fort Collins, Colorado which was not too far away as we wanted to make use of the hot springs. The resort is between Denver and Colorado Springs in the state of Colorado. This was one of the places where we chose to be economical and share a room with my daughter and her partner. It is easy in the States as they always give you two big queen...Read More
