Brasserie le Tocco

Restaurant | "Busy restaurant, average food!"

We headed to this restaurant for lunch one day of the meeting in Hyeres. We only had 1 and a half hours for lunch but thought that this place looked very nice and there were plenty of customers and staff racing around. However, I should have known better when we were more or less ignored on arrival. Staff members raced past us but no-one was out seating people on the patio. Finally we got seated and handed menus, which seemed reasonable enough (i.e. cheap) and some of the other people ordered the plat du jour. However, I don't eat fish so just ordered a pasta dish with basil pesto.None of the food was very complicated yet it still took the staff a very long time to bring it to us. It was n...Read More

Base Nautique

Attraction | "A wonderful place for a meeting!"

Being based down in the marina of Hyeres there really weren't many places to hold a meeting, this venue was the only option. Luckily I was staying close by, but even if you were up in the old town of Hyeres there was a (quite infrequent) bus service. The venue consisted of 3 meeting rooms on the first floor, surrounded by verandas. All of the rooms had air conditioning, but it was really only us northern Europeans that couldn't cope with the heat.I have to say I couldn't think of a better place for a meeting, because coffee breaks were held out on the verandas in the beautiful sunshine overlooking the Mediterranean. Not only that the coffee was delicious and each break we had small pastrie...Read More

Attraction | "The first European land and marine national park"

As part of our meeting in Hyeres we were take on a boat trip our to the Island of Port Cros, which took about an hour. The island itself is only 4km long and 2.5km wide, so could easily be walked around during the day. However, it's not only one of the smallest islands it is also one of the most mountainous and described as the wildest. We sailed around the island itself and I have to say that it has lots of cliffs, and seemed to have little access to any beaches from the island itself. Also the island itself is part of the first ever European land and marine national park, which was designated in 1963.Being a national park means that there are lots of very strict regulations, like for exa...Read More

I was staying in this hotel found in the Port area of Hyeres for a week long conference. All I can say is I am glad that work was paying, because I thought that for what I got it was expensive. I paid €400 for 6 nights stay, which included breakfast. When I arrived it was dark, so I didn’t get a good look at outside, but there was an outdoor restaurant and bar at the front. I wandered to reception and got checked in, which was simple enough process as I don’t speak very good French and hand signals and the print out was all I needed to get checked in. There was a lift up to my 2nd floor room and I wandered down a very dark and long corridor to room number 203. Now I don’t know if this is a typi...Read More

As the restaurant attached to the hotel I was staying in I had plenty of opportunity to eat there. I have to say given the basic state of the hotel rooms I was a little apprehensive about eating here. However after a busy day of meetings that ran to 9pm I was too hungry to find anywhere else to eat. I managed to get a table outside and had a quick look at the menu. My french dictionary was soon out as the whole thing was in French and as a pretty rubbish linguist I was having difficulty. Luckily the menu isn’t that extensive and I could figure out what had fish in it (which I don’t eat) and went ahead and ordered the pork with dauphinoise potatoes followed by a fig tart. I also had a look at the drink...Read More
