Restaurant | "Gorgeous country pub and even better food!"

We decided to eat at this country pub just outside of Scarborough after a long morning walking. Suffice to say we were hungry and the smells wafting from the kitchen enticed us in. There was plenty of parking in the small car park and we headed in the back entrance past lots of lovely picnic benches outside. The decor inside is a mixture of modern, shabby chic and old-fashioned country pub, which strangely enough managed to go together nicely. We were attended straight away by a waiter who took a drinks order and gave us menus before letting us choose a table. It wasn't very busy but there were enough people in to make it feel well used, and we managed to get a table in the corner....Read More

Futurist Theatre

Attraction | "Don't be too disappointed by this 80 year old venue!"

Futurist Theatre Photo, Scarborough, England
Quote:
The Futurist Theatre is a pretty prominant feature on Scarborough's Foreshore. Currently it has, what now appears to have been a very bad idea, a 'lovely' 1969 facade of yellow. I suppose at one time it will have been quite modern and fashionable but now it just looks a bit sad and depressing. Behind this supposedly is the original semi-classical facade and the place really could do with a bit of regeneration back to it's former glory.Inside everything is a bit sad and dated, there is a huge, sweeping auditorium, which some of the time has a huge, badly angled projector screen for the cinema. At other times it is set up as a theatre with a huge stage. Over the years I have been to lots of ...Read More

Restaurant | "Cheap and Cheerful Pizza & Pasta"

We've been going to this restaurant for several years now. It isn't posh nosh place and it is often crowded with young teenagers having their birthday parties, in fact most saturday nights you will hear their birthday song played out 4 or 5 times. Now to some people that might sound like a hideous place to eat, but we keep going back because the food is always good and cheap, the staff are friendly and efficient and it's got a great atmosphere. We often go here before a night out or when we just can't be bothered to cook. They serve excellent pizzas, that are traditionally Italian thin crust and have a wide range of toppings. I particularly love the calzones and could have them every time I...Read More

Crown Spa Hotel

Hotel | "A hotel, a spa and a gym...perfect!"

Crown Spa Hotel Photo, Scarborough, England
Quote:
The Crown Spa Hotel is a luxury 4-star hotel overlooking the sea and South Bay in Scarborough. It is a lovely white building that is on top of South Cliff, that was really easy to find. It's a short walk across the Spa Bridge to the town centre and a slightly longer walk down the cliff to the seafront area. We didn't bring a car, as we travelled by train, and we really didn't need one. If you do take a car though, parking is free, but in the summer there are sometimes no spaces. We were welcomed by two young reception staff who made us feel really welcome. Check in itself was very straightforward and we were soon shown to our room. We were on the second floor and had a view of the bay, whic...Read More

Restaurant | "Irresistable Italian Food in Yorkshire"

CoGoni's is a new restaurant in Scarborough, it opened just this year (2011) and is a really lovely restaurant. Unfortunately it is hidden away from the main traffic and I think most people will not even have heard of it, let alone just walk past it. It's at the top end of North Marine Road, near the Fire Station and I'm sure if you asked someone they would give you directions, the folk in Scarborough tend to be very helpful. We booked in for a Thursday night and had no problem getting a table. We arrived a few minutes early and had a nice drink at the bar, then we were shown to our table. The staff were very polite, attentive and courteous, making sure we had everything that we needed. Tha...Read More

Attraction | "The Best Ice-Cream in the Country!!"

Harbour Bar Photo, Scarborough, England
Quote:
You might not believe this, but Scarborough is home to the Harbour Bar, a retro ice cream bar on the seafront that has remained unchanged (almost) since it opened in the 40s....and it is famous for the best ice cream in the country. I've attached some photos so you can see what the decor is like, but think formica in banana yellow and white with chrome fixtures. There is a central bar that the staff work behind and you can sit at the counter or at one of the tables laid around the bar.As children when visiting Scarborough this was a must visit and it was one of the only times that we were allowed to order what we want. I always ordered their knicker-bocker glory, costing almost £5 and was ...Read More
