The Banyan Veranda

Restaurant | "Breakfast with a View"

My wife and I were staying at the Moana Surfrider so this was an excellent choice for our first breakfast of our trip. The Veranda wraps around the back left portion of the hotel facing the beach with tables inside as well as outdoors. We were a bit jet lagged and wound up waking at 5am which was fine since breakfast started at 6am. Surprisingly at that early hour there were already people having breakfast; guess they were off their sleep schedule too. The host allowed us to chose our own table and we decided on one close to the beach outside. We decided to do the buffet and not go with the a la carte menu items. The buffet was set up inside and had an incredible selection of...Read More

Hula Grill

Restaurant | "A Romantic Sunset Dinner"

Although I have been to Waikiki many times before I had never made it to the Hula Grill until the first trip with my wife. Her friend Salmo had recommended the place for drinks as well as dinner so we had to check it out. The restaurant was located a few blocks down from our hotel at the Outrigger Waikiki. We were smart and made reservations for five thirty and good thing we did; the line was very long for a table(good thinking on my wife's part). We arrived a little early and decided to have drinks at the bar which is always a good way to start the night. The bar is to the left of the restaurant and has a "Tiki" hut feel to it. There are stools at the bar as well as bar tables alon...Read More

Tiki's Grill & Bar

Restaurant | "Tropical Drinks in Tiki Heads"

Tiki's Grill & Bar Photo, Honolulu, Oahu
Quote:
Tiki's was yet another place I can thank my wife's friend for recommending to us. This bar/ restaurant was the perfect place to grab a snack and enjoy some drinks on their rooftop overlooking the beach. We came here just for a snack but found the choices quite extensive. We finally decided on the Calamari Katsu which was a large calamari steak in a panko crust covered with blue crab and shrimp salsa in a lemongrass caper butter sauce. For drinks we decided to do the "tourist thing" and order some tropical drinks in Tiki Heads. I chose my usual poison; a Mai Tai while my wife went rogue and ordered a Polynesian Prince. Our drinks arrived swiftly in their Tiki heads. My Mai...Read More

Leonard's Bakery

Restaurant | "Fried Dough Heaven"

Leonard's Bakery Photo, Honolulu, Oahu
Quote:
Leonard's is a local bakery that specialized in Portuges donoughts or Malassada as they are called. My wife and I had to check this place out since we heard they were a "must try". The bakery was a short walk from our hotel and we arrived early. We were warned that the crwds line up for these sweet treats os we were fully prepared for the line we encountered. They make a variety of Malassadas and we dediced to try a few kinds. We ordered a variety of cream filled, jelly filled and classic cinnamon sugar. Warm and delicious they are a bite of heaven. My wife and i both agreed though that the cinnamon sugar was the best flavor. We enjoyed them so much we ordered a box for the plane r...Read More

Beach Bar at Moana Surfrider

Attraction | "A Cool Beach Bar"

Beach Bar at Moana Surfrider Photo, Honolulu, Oahu

My wife and I were staying at the Moana Surfrider so it was only natural taht we check out their Beach Bar. Located at the back of the hotel in the Banyan Tree Courtyard this bar was one happening spot. Tables were full of patrons and we were lucky to get a seat at the bar. The menu has a variety of drinks as well as bar food. Predictably I ordered my Mai Tai and Liz chose her Strawberry Dacquiri; we are creatures of habit. Our drinks came quickly and i was glad we sat at the bar since table service seemed to be less than stellar. My Mai Tai was quite good and strong. Liz enjoyed her Strawberry dacquiri. What I really liked about this place was the location. It had a ...Read More

Plantation Bar at Hula Grill

Restaurant | "More Mai Tais Please"

Plantation Bar at Hula Grill Photo, Oahu, Hawaii

This bar is part of the Hula Grill in the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. My wife and I found ourselves here during our last trip a few times. Once just for drink and then for a snack. I like the casual feel to this bar. Everyone has that no worries attitude that helps me relax. The bar has a good selection of bar food and drinks. Even better is that we came here for their Happy Hour and received speciality priced drinks and food (Happy Hour is 4pm-6pm daily).Drinks here are very good and decently priced. I loved their Mai Tai's. The burger here is also quite nice; juicy and a nice size served on a chiabatta roll. Liz and I shared a burger as an afternoon snack along with som...Read More

da Big Kahuna Waikiki

Restaurant | "A Bit of A Dive Bar"

My friend Natalie recomended this place to us since she loved the joint. We decided to try it out one afternoon after some shopping. The place is a bit on the run down side but I didn't let it deter us in the least. We had a seat by the bar on one of the couches and took a look at the menu. At this point my wife was "drinked" out and decided to have club soda. I went for a Mai Tai of course. After checking out the large food selection we decided to split an order of their mozzarella sticks. The drinks here are strong; you definitely get your moneys worth for sure....after all this place is the home of "Da Fishbowl" a drink in a fishbowl witha large amount of alcohol. Our mozzarell...Read More

Pikake Terrace at Sheraton Princess

Restaurant | "My Favorite Place for a Mai Tai"

Pikake Terrace at Sheraton Princess Photo, Oahu, Hawaii
Quote:
I always make the Pikake Terrace a stop when I am on the island of Oahu. I have been coming here for years and have even stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel before. The Mai Tais here are what I consider the best on the island so I have to return here for a few.The Pikake Terrace is a Bar/Restaurant located across from the Sheraton hotel pool and has several tables and well as bar seating. This place can get rather packed especially if there is a buffet or during the nightly live entertainment. Breakfast and dinner buffets are served here so it does draw a large crowd. I would suggest visiting during early afternoon for a more relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere.Th...Read More
