Social Paraiso

Restaurant | "Argentinian food, but more than just steak!"

Paraiso Social is in a really cool space - one small square room with two story tall ceilings. All the walls are white with very little cluttering them. There had to have been no more than 25 tables, a majority for two people. The kitchen is open the the dining room on the wall opposite the entrance. We sat directly in front of the kitchen; I was facing the street and my partner the kitchen. The staff was extremely friendly. When I delivered my oh so common line - "Hablo un poco Espanol, lo siento" - our waitress retrieved a waiter with fairly good English. And, when due to the language barrier, my partner was served the wrong dish (ravioli instead of risotto) he was quick to swap it ou...Read More

Restaurant | "Warm and cozy neighborhood parilla"

On our first full day in BA we knew we had to visit a parilla - an Argentine steakhouse. Upon a recommendation of a friend we visited Don Julio. From the exterior the restaurant didn't look like anything too special, but when you enter you feel engulfed in warmth. There was a beautiful tiled floor, creamy white walls accented with dark wood paneling and trim, and white linen covered tables. The ceilings were extra tall allowing for a balcony with five or six tables overlooking the dining room - we snagged one of them. The menu was, of course, in Spanish, but luckily our waiter knew a little English - they do have an English menu as we learned a little too late.To start we orde...Read More

We arranged transportation to and from Ezeiza before departing to ensure an easy transfer into the city. The car service was arranged through ApartmentsBA, the service from which we rented our apartment, but you can arrange the transportation directly with the company.Orvitur provided our transfer services. We provided our flight information, including the arrival time, and a representative was waiting in the main hall next to the "Taxi Ezeiza" information booth. There were many, many signs for arriving travelers, so it may take a few minutes to find the correct one. The staff person called the driver and took us outside as he was pulling up. They loaded our bags and we were on our wa...Read More

Hotel | "Live like a local without sacrificing luxury"

The goal of our trip was to immerse ourselves in Buenos Aires; to live like a local. So we decided to rent an apartment. A friend of ours had used a service called ApartmentsBA, which owns and manages apartments in neighborhoods around the city.We rented a luxury studio named UNOC19 for nine nights in July 2011, and had an absolutely wonderful experience. ApartmentsBA was a great company to work with; they honored every request we had - including late check-out. They even arranged for a service to pick us up from the airport. They have a concierge available during business hours; we did not use this service. The main room of the studio was divided by a set of bookshelves hou...Read More
