We chose this hotel based on the close proximity to Port Everglades; we were hopping on a cruise the following day. The hotel is right on the water and about 5 minutes from the Port. When we arrived we valeted the rental car and proceeded to the lobby. Check in was very easy and the front desk staff was very friendly. The lobby had a nice bar area with lots of chairs and couches. The outside deck had couches and a fire pit to keep guests warm on the chilly night. The room was beautiful. It has a sleek and minamalistic decor. The bed was large and comfortable. I actually had a good night's sleeep and like the bedding. The bathroom is a nice size and the shower was very large. The best featu...Read More

Carlos & Pepe's was a convenient food option from us first for a meal then for snacks and dessert later in the week. This place was right down the street from the Embassy Suites; a short five minute walk and about a ten minute walk from the Hilton Marina (We were in town for a cruise and for a conference afterwards). The restaurant is located in a strip mall on busy 17th street. Inside the place is quite large with a spacious bar area and several tables and booths throughout the dining room. There is also a large patio area with tables fro al fresco dining but it was just too humid. We wanted a seat at the bar but this place was jamming so we settled for a booth. The menu he...Read More

Waxy’s is an Irish Pub/Restaurant. We were staying right across from the place at the Embassy Suites and decided to give it a try. The place is a nice size with a large patio for outdoor dining and plenty of seating inside at the bar or in the dining room. There was a large crowd of people enjoying their lunch on the patio but it was just too hot for us.Since we were here for lunch we decided to have a seat at a booth instead of the main dining room. Our waitress handed us menus and took our drink orders. I ordered a Magner’s while Liz chose a Stella. The menu has a nice selection of Irish specialties: bangers n Mash, Shepherd’s Pie, Fish & Chips, Guiness Stew etc., as well a typical p...Read More

Taza is a Mediterranean restaurant my wife and I visited during our last trip to Fort Lauderdale. We were enticed by their sign in the window for Happy Hour from 4pm-7pm (even on weekends) with half price drinks and appetizers. We came here on a Saturday after our conference was done for the day around 4ish. The restaurant is located in a strip mall right on 17th street. The place is very big with a large dining room and a huge bar area. We decided to have a seat at the bar with a few other patrons. The bartender Joe handed us menus and informed us of the Happy Hour pricing and specials. I ordered a Coors Light draft and my wife had a Stella. We perused the menu and found several...Read More

This place is hands down my favorite spot in Fort Lauderdale. I loved everything about it; the view, the vibe, the food, the service...all spot on. My wife found this place thanks to a friend. The restaurant is a popular place and known for the seafood. We decided to come here for Happy Hour after a conference day. We arrived a little after 4pm; which was the start of Happy Hour. Due to the heat and our over exposure to the sun on our cruise we decided to have a seat at the bar inside. The place has a casual dining area downstairs complete with outdoor patio and a more formal upstairs dining room (both have different menus). The bar was not too crowded and we found some seats by...Read More

Bimini is a popular Seafood restaurant on 17th street. We were told this is a great place for food and happy hour in particular. We were in town for a conference and decided to hit this place for Happy Hour. The place itself is huge with two large inside bar areas, large indoor dining room, outdoor dining room on the water and an outdoor tiki style bar. Since it was hot outside Liz and I decided to have a seat at one of the bars inside. Both bars inside were hopping and the outside was jamming with people.Happy Hour consisted of specially priced beer and well drinks along with a half priced appetizer menu for the bar area only. The menu had a nice selection of pub grub items alo...Read More

Embassy Suites Hotel Ft. Lauderdale-17th Street

Hotel | "A Good Pre- Cruise Hotel"

The Embassy Suites on 17th was a good stay. Nothing spectacular, but a good stay. Check in was simple and I was quickly given our keys. Being that we checked in at 10pm I was more concerned in finding a restaurant with the kitchen still open than worrying about anything else. Looking back there was no mention of status and to be honest I was not even given the code for the free internet at check in. I had to come back and ask for that after dinner. Waiting in our room for us though was a basket with soda, water, pretzels and m&ms with a letter saying thank you for being diamond and staying with them from the general manager. This was a rather nice touch. The room was a small suite on t...Read More

Fort Lauderdale has become a place for my wife and I to hop on a cruise ship bound for the Caribbean. Port Everglades serves so many cruise ships: Carnival, Princess, Celebrity,Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and more. My wife and I have enjoyed several cruises from this port. According to the locals they call Fort Lauderdale "The Venice of America" due to its expansive and intricate canal system. To me it's as if you are comparing apples and oranges but hey its their right to be proud of their city.Fort Lauderdale has so many options for visitors: beaches, boating, shopping, cruising, dining and countless water sports. Fort Lauderdale has many hotels to...Read More
