A September 2001 trip
to Gold Coast by aussiemate
Quote: The whole Gold Coast area of Australia encompassing Broadbeach and Surfer's is very built up. It's a crazy city on a long expanse of coastline which reminded me of a spring break party town.
There is an area with three types of bungi activities: bungi rocket where two can ride together, bungi cord on trampoline, and traditional bungi. There were crowds gathered to watch and to ride every time we walked by.
The beach is very nice, and it is fun to watch the pros surfing. The water was very clear. I'd recommend spending time at the beach but avoiding the zillions of tourist shops.

We took a walk across the street to the beach and saw that the women''s triathlon competition of the Goodwill Games was about to start. We watched a portion of the running and rowing part, and then we decided to walk into Surfer''s Paradise. It was about a 5K walk, and we were lucky enough to arrive at our destination just ahead of a rain shower.
We had the buffet breakfast at Food Fantasy included in our room rate, so we tried it on Sunday. There was a 20 minute wait to get in, and they took away all of the breakfast items by 10:30. To be honest, all of the food we tried was awful, so it wasn''t worth the wait. Others were paying about $20 each to get in, and they seemed quite disappointed with the value.

Restaurant | "Benihana Japanese Steakhouse"
The chef put on an excellent show, and the food was terrific. The shrimp and fried rice were just like in Vegas -- delectable. Two different wedding parties were at other tables there, which was also reminiscent of Vegas.

Attraction | "Currumbin Sanctuary"
They had about 30 koalas, though, and they were cute. The rest of the park was pretty good but it was very small. It only takes an hour to feel you have seen everything here. We didn't feel it was worth the price.
