Grand Teton National ParkWHERE WILL YOU FIND THIS NATIONAL PARK?This National Park is in the state of Wyoming in the North West and stretches through to join Yellowstone National Park from Jackson Hole. Today the area is a popular ski area but is also known for its stunning scenery, hiking areas, fishing and wildlife. This National Park gets its name from the huge Grand Teton mountain peak which is 13,770 feet high and is within the Teton Range. The mountains are very alpine looking with sharp high glacial peaks. The Grand Tetons are a part of the Rocky Mountain range and they are a truly stunning area of natural beauty. The mountains formed with no foothills and so the n...Read More

Old Faithful Lodge CabinsYellowstone National ParkWe spent three days in Yellowstone National Park and we stayed in one of the Frontier cabins which are part of the Old Faithful Lodge run by Xanterra Parks and Resorts. We booked our stay before we left the UK through their site on line and this was a good idea as they do very quickly get booked up especially at busy times. We arrived at the Lodge quite early, we parked our car and decided to take advantage of the wonderful sunny weather and do the walk around the geysers and hot pools near to Old Faithful Lodge. The walk took us about 3 hours by the time we stopped and took photos. It was just the most amazing walk as ever...Read More

THE FIRST NATIONAL MONUMENTOn September 24th 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt declared Devils Tower as a national monument. The actual butte and a surrounding 1,152.91 acres was set aside as this amount of land he believed to "be sufficiently large to provide for the proper care and management of the monument".During early settlement of the area the Area of the Black Hills was ‘given’ to the Lakota tribes but once gold was found there settles persisted in entering the area to mine. The tribes and these illegal settles fought, the US government tried to get the Lakota to give up their sacred Black Hills but they were naturally reluctant to once again be moved off their land so ...Read More

Vore Buffalo JumpWyomingWHY DID YOU GO THERE?We changed our plans and didn’t go into North Dakota because of torrential rains and so we had an extra couple of nights staying in Spearfish South Dakota. We looked around for things that we might find interesting to visit and decided to drive to see The Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. On the way back we noticed a sign to Vore Buffalo Jump and followed the directions to this site. When we arrived the gate was open but there was no-one else there and the car park was empty. We got out and found that the huge chain link gate was unlocked and wide open so we investigated a bit further. The wooden visitors centre was locked up and ...Read More

Quality Inn – 49er –Jackson, WyomingWe arrived rather later than we had planned as the road between Montpelier and Jackson had a rather large landslide, half a mountain was across the road so we had to do a detour across the Grand Teton Mountain Pass. Luckily we had stopped in Alpine for a coffee and had thought we had already avoided the landslide as we came through Soda springs instead of straight up the Highway. They very kindly gave us a printed set of instructions on how to get to Jackson avoiding the landslide at the bar in Alpine. We arrived and I went over to check in. We had booked this place prior to leaving the UK too and it cost about $135 for the night including bre...Read More
