Hostal Santillan

This Hostal is really more of a hotel or even a B and B but they don't offer breakfast. rates are as low as 66.00 Euros for a double and the rooms are nice and clean and nice bathrooms with a small amenities added such as shampoo and body gel but small packs so you may want to bring your own. The Location is excellent about 100 metres from a metro and there are lots of restaurants in the area. The only small drawback is that its rather noisy . The owner was great in giving us a map and directions.

Great hotel and since we got the airline crew rate for 120.00 Euros inc Breakfast and afternoon cocktails it was good deal for 3 girls traveling together. But it was a 500 meter walk to metro then we were 17 stops for downtown. When I came back to Madrid 6 weeks later I stayed in town.

Mercado de San Miguel

Behind the Plaza Mayor is the Mercado de San Miquel.
I ended up here both times for 2 different nights. Its a great place to eat for a few Euros. They have wine and beer bars and places to get tapas and desserts also.
Something for everyone. Its a great place to people watch. But also note I got wine for about 3 Euros and they aren't stingy with the pours. Lots of fresh bread.

There are 2-3 bars right outside but I never made it to any of them. They have nice outside tables.

This is just a great place to come and hang out.
