Overview

You must check out the beautiful Crimean nature. It may look like some of the destinations you may have already visited, but it is clearly most northern amongst the similar places, and its climate is famously healthy. Warm sea, rocky mountains, subtropical plants, and nice weather (we have no bad weather during 10 days in Crimea!) are great, especially if you prefer to go out of civilization and dedicate yourself to the nature. But remember - bring no trash and leave just footprints!Quick Tips: Crimea has also a rich history. Many different nations lived there throughout the history, so you will find cultural memorials of many nations there...Best Way To Get Around: Backpacker? Use y...Read More

Attraction | "Chufut-Kale, cave city"

Chufut-Kale Photo, Crimea, Ukraine
Quote:
Chufut-Kale is an ancient cave city, built in Crimean mountains, in one of the most spectacular mountain landscape I ever saw. It is a quite popular destination, so you would probably be offered a tour. We were there thanks for our Ukrainian friends, who knew this place. History of this place was always connected to poverty, sadness and sufferings. This is where people looked for asylum, hiding themselves from oppressors of every kind. Cage cities like this were used by Christians, when Christianity was not welcomed these places, and Karaims, Jewish-like falks, who were also not welcomed here all the time. Amazing, but people used to live here in beginning of XX century. Hard to imagine how hard this ...Read More

Uspensky monastery

Very close to Chufut-Kale, you will find another attraction place - Uspensky Monastery. It is an acting monastery, where monks live and work. As any other Orthodox monastery, it is very beautiful inside, but it is also unique since it is built inside the rock. You can also find a spring water downstairs in front of the monastery.

On the photos you can see us near the monastery, once on the way to Chufut-Kale, and another is on the way back. Refreshing "holy" spring water is invaluable on the way back!

Black River is a narrow and fast, typical mountain river. It is ice cold even in the warmest months, and when you reach it, you put your hot body into it with greates pleasure. It is deep enough to dive, and you can use some places as a bubble bath! Swimming is a natural reward after a long walk along the canyon, add-on value to sightseeing you have while hiking!

Attraction | "Livadia Palace (Italian garden)"

Livadia Palace Photo, Crimea, Ukraine
Quote:
Italian Garden was first open to public in 2000, just when we visited Livadia Palace. Before that, people could only see it in Soviet films (many films had scenes in this garden when it was neccesary to show a beautiful garden in mediterranean context), or in historical chronicles (Yalta conference in 1945 was held in the hall whcih has windows to this garden). Weird detail - you must pay extra to visit this garden, even if you paid your entrance fee to the whole museum.

You will find a museum inside Livadia Palace. From the one hand, this where the last royal family of Russia lived in summer, on the other hand, this where the famous Yalta conference took place in 1945. Therefore, there are two expositions in the museum, one is about 1945 conference, and other is about the royal family. There are things that were used by tsar, tsarina and their children, still in their places. Take a look at the pictures.

You can walk through Kachee Canyon, or any other Canyon in the area, to have a look at gorgeous mountains covered with forests, some cave cities used by medieval refugees, take a look at cold mountain rivers, climb as high as you can get, and take a look over the great subtropical scenery.
