I first heard of Blackberry Wood after it was named campsite of the year in the Cool Camping book for England. Fast forward a couple of years and we finally got our opportunity to visit. We actually booked for five nights from Sunday to Friday in May. The campsite does offer online booking, about 13 months in advance but its recent fame has meant that weekends do get booked up very quickly and were practically booked out, as were most school holidays, by January. The campsite takes only about 20 tents, and one of the key attractions of the site is that these are in their own individual glades, of varying sizes, but ultimately very private, while at the same time not being too far from each other. The ...Read More

Attraction | "Cheap British Holidaymaking - at its best?"

Despite enjoying the finer things in life, and working in hospitality which essentially means I can usually get industry rates in most towns and cities in the UK, my recent five day trip inspired me to a new hobby - that of camping. I have made an investment in a £600 tent (complete with rooms) and Burton Constable was my first weekend destination. I selected Burton Constable Caravan park purely because if its location. I work very close to the Humber Bridge, and the Burton Constable Caravan Park is located on the north side of the bridge, to the North East and close to a village called Sproatley. The main objective was to find somewhere within one hour of work, so as not to waste a Friday...Read More

I am not quite sure where I got the idea of a "Yurt holiday" from, but I believe it was after thumbing through one of the Cool Camping series of books around Christmas time. I hunted for ages to try and find the right place, at an affordable sum, and indeed despite the fact that we wanted to go in an off peak period, in the last week of April, we struggled for availability from as far afield as Devon and Cumbria. We stumbled upon Larkhill Tipis following an internet search, and did also to find one review on the yurts themselves. That person advised that even though it was November, it was still lovely and cosy inside. As South Wales is one of the few places we have never travelled to with...Read More

Attraction | "Carry on Camping"

Despite the vast information out there about particular sites, and being members of the Camping and Caravanning Club, choosing a campsite can be quite daunting! There are just too many to choose from. My general requirements are for a site which is a relatively easy commute from home or work, for easy access on a Friday night, is small rather than too large, but most importantly has decent showering and toilet facilities and good shelter. Pexton Moor Farm campsite was recommended to me by my colleague who had visited last year. The campsite itself is on the edge of the beautiful Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire, only another 30 minute drive from the four star hotel which I spend half ...Read More
