Bistro Pierre 18 Friargate, Derby, DE1 1BX.Tel: 01332 370 470This is a French bistro chain of restaurants in the UK. The one in Derby has been there some years now and we eaten there on a number of occasions. We had my step daughter’s family 18th Celebration there, she chose the venue. This one in Derby is one of the oldest of the chain and is in fact the second one in the Bistro Pierre group to be opened in 1996. It is on Friargate on the outer fringes of the city centre where there are a number of restaurants and cafes and bars. There is a pay and display car park round the corner or if you are after 6pm then it is free to park along the street near the ...Read More

Restaurant | "Was it a better bank ?"

Quote:
This Weatherspoon's pub is in the older part of derby they are trying to re invent calling it the 'Cathedral Quarter. They killed it off by building the huge Westfield at the other end of the city and so unless there is something specific you need from down this end people tend to stay in the warm dry modern shopping centre that could be anywhere in the world. This is not the kind of place I would chose to go for a meal personally but as a reward for our volunteering, 'Homestart' take us out for a meal twice a year and this is where they took us last time. A SNIPPET OF HISTORY I remember as a youngster that this building was a bank. It is a fine traditional looking bank t...Read More

We went to this restaurant back in the summer with another couple on their suggestion and I booked the table on line and I also managed to change the booking as we had to change the date and that I also did on line which is very handy. This restaurant is one of a chain and others can be found in Bath, Epsom, Luton, Staines, Newcastle. Ask Italian –DerbyThis is an Italian restaurant that is part of a chain and fairly new in Derby. It can be found in the Market Place not too far from the Assembly rooms and the Quad so convenient for a pre- performance meal. I can’t remember what was there before, I believe it was a cafe but it has been renovated and done up in a very modern chic style and now looks very welcoming.I met a group of former colleagues there for a meal in the evening and we were welcomed in a very friendly manner and shown to our table. We managed to order our drinks including a jug of tap water which they also asked if we wanted ice and lemon in which we did. Our table was spotlessly clean and ou...Read More

I had never heard of the restaurant as it is one of the new restaurants which have been built along the river side where the old bus station used to be. Now we have a holiday Inn and a couple of restaurants as well as a new bus station. This restaurant is on the fourth floor of the Holiday inn. You have to go into the hotel reception and then use the lift to get up to the restaurant. The hotel rooms are floors two and three and those floors can only be accessed using a room key card for security. This is a brand new building so everything is fresh and minimalist. The list is speedy and held about twelve of us so pretty big and quite efficient in that both times we pressed a butto...Read More

Restaurant | "Istanbul in Derby?"

Quote:
A Step back in time:This is a very strange little restaurant to find as it is in the back end of the market in derby near the fish section, up some fairly grotty stairs and it certainly wouldn’t be the sort of place that would get passing custom just from seeing the place. Once you get into the restaurant the decor in the room is the Turkish equivalent of the 1970’s Chinese restaurants that did the cheap lunch deals. The chairs are very basic wooden and the tables also nothing special. On the walls are pictures of various Turkish places and a few artefacts but all rather faded and tired looking. The floor is a wooden one with a non descript sort of covering. All in all it really isn’t going to a...Read More

I paid £11 for two people for an ‘All You Can Eat Indian Buffet’ which normally would cost £27 for two. Now having enjoyed the deal I would happily go back and pay the normal cost which would be great value at £13.50 a head but for £6.50 a head which is what we paid we got extraordinary value.Finding the restaurant:We had no idea where this restaurant was until we looked it up and followed our nose. Restaurant | "Champagne breakfast - a great deal"

Quote:
This is a fairly new restaurant in Derby and I recently bought a Groupon deal for a Sunday Brunch Champagne breakfast for £12 a person. We bought four and took two friends along as it was the wife’s birthday and we always like to do something together on our birthdays. I did explain to our guests that I had these vouchers so they were aware of the deal.As with all Groupon deals you phone the actual place where you will be going in order to book and then tell them the code number of the voucher. When you have four this does take a little time. I booked for about 11.30am as I thought this would be closer to lunch time and I could just about see us lasting till then without food.W...Read More

Graze12 FriargateDerbyDE1 1BUTel: 01332 208262This is a modern British restaurant along a road in Derby that has quite a few different restaurants in competition with each other in very close proximity. I think over the last few years we have probably been about ten times with a number of different people, both friends and family. In the last few months they have had a major face lift and opened out the back of the restaurant to make the seating capacity about double what it was.The décor is modern, leather and chrome with glass, all very smart and slick. As you enter the restaurant from the street the bar is on your right and this is where you are greet...Read More

The restaurant was a winner in the 2010 Derby Food and drink awards and also has been awarded 5 stars by Derby City Council for Health and Hygiene which I felt was a good thing to know. This restaurant is in a part of Derby where there are several different restaurants bit it is well away from the main curry area so they are not in direct competition with other ...Read More

WHAT IS ANOKI?Anoki is a very stylish, luxury Indian restaurant in Derby, Derbyshire. We are not short of curry restaurants in Derby as we have a large Asian population in our city. These restaurants were all in one part of the city but have now become the norm in all areas around Derby and Derbyshire generally.ANOKIThe word Anoki in Urdu means unique and this restaurant certainly is just that – unique and very special. In my view this has got to be THE best Indian restaurant in Derby and possibly the whole country. In fact Anoki is recognized as one of the UK's top ten Indian restaurants and restaurants for groups in The Times newspaper. It has a wonderful com...Read More
