Old Medina of Casablanca

Attraction | "Wander the Old Medina for Interesting Photos"

The Old Medina is essentially a shopping mecca. Wander aimlessly, take in the sights, but save your purchases for Marrakech (if you're going there). Casablanca's medinas seem to be expensive, unless you're an astute bargainer.

Rick's Cafe

Restaurant | "Rick's Café of the movie Casablanca fame."

Rick's Cafe Photo,

Rick’s Café in Casablanca is a recreation of the bar made famous by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the classic movie, Casablanca. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you should see it before visiting Casablanca & Rick's Café. We had already had a wonderful meal at La Sqala Café Maure, just down the street, so we went to Rick's for a late afternoon drink. We sat at the bar, with the piano just behind us. My husband had a Casablanca Beer & the bartender was gracious enough to rinse out the bottle for us to take as a souvenir. Unfortunately, the glass bottle was taken away from us at airport security. Bummer. If you want to take one home, pack it carefully in your checked bag (we did...Read More

Hassan II Mosque

Attraction | "Massive Mosque"

Hassan II Mosque Photo,

I'm finding it hard to find words worthy of this massive mosque, the largest in Morocco, & 5th largest in the world (I've also heard it's the 2nd largest, not sure). Don't let your cab driver tell you that it's closed or doesn't open for another hour--they just want to sell you a guided tour of Casablanca. Guided tours of the mosque are given in many different languages. Go downstairs, buy your ticket, then wait for your guide next to the sign marking your language. The chandeliers, doorways, stonework, ceilings, mosaics, & fountains might just leave you speechless.

La Sqala

Restaurant | "Absolutely best food we found in Morocco!"

A local told us about this restaurant. She told us to look for the cannons...& we did! It doesn't look like a restaurant from the outside, but this place is simply amazing. Located right at the edge of the Old Medina, La Sqala Café Maure is a unique indoor-outdoor restaurant within the old city wall of Casablanca. We were delighted to find brightly coloured mosaic tables, huge brass teapots on stands, rows of tagine (local cuisine) containers--all in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. And let me tell you, the food was wonderful! We arrived in time for brunch & thoroughly enjoyed the Moroccan crepes! If you're ever in Casablanca, this is the place to eat! Oh, & for a great youtube vi...Read More

Ibis Moussafir Casablanca

Hotel | "Perfect location next to train station to Marrakech."

If you're planning on taking the 3 1/2 hour train from Casablanca to Marrakech, this is the hotel for you! The train station is right next door. And even though the hotel is next to the train station, we found it to be relatively quiet. Our room was more than adequate, overlooking a lovely garden area. We had a small flatscreen tv that got CNN. There's a very nice restaurant on site with quite good food & welcoming service. There is an elevator/lift. We actually found the bed in our room to be very comfortable. Be sure the taxi driver knows to take you to Boulevard Bahmad Place de la Gare Casa-Voyageur. There's another Ibis hotel near another train station. Our first cab driver took us t...Read More
