Quote: A 3 day business trip to Atlanta saw me irate at Delta airways, furious at Atlanta Airport and a bit miffed with the hotel. But the food was pretty interesting.

I wasn’t impressed when I learned I had to go to Atlanta for the week of my birthday but my colleague who invited me (that’s invite in the ‘can’t say no’ sense of the word) promised me a nice dinner in the evening of my big day. Luckily it wasn’t the day I was dragged to a Brazilian barbecue restaurant where waiters waived sticks of meat under my fishitarian nose causing some distress.I was told the restaurant ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ was a bit ‘special’. The organizer of the meeting I’d gone to is Italian and a real foodie and apparently this place was his choice. Reviews I found online suggested it was spectacularly good and very highly regarded. Knowing how great Italian food can be in Italy, ...Read More

I’ve never had a very high opinion of American-owned airlines and this has been mostly based on the dreadful service I’ve had on multiple flights with American Airlines. After witnessing their policy of massive overbooking (which they laughingly claim is for the BENEFIT of their customers) and having a flight cancelled out from under me (despite being booked in business class and having confirmed it) I vowed to stay away and stick with European carriers for flights to the USA. Unfortunately when I needed to go to Atlanta recently there was no sensible alternative to flying with Delta. I didn’t expect them to be brilliant but even my lowest possible imaginings didn’t prepare me for just how bad they we...Read More

In the last week of March I went on a business trip to Atlanta to attend a big meeting about a new software system. The software company invited us all to go for dinner with them and chose a very special place. When I say that it’s very special I have to qualify that it’s very special IF you eat meat and if you love and enjoy eating meat. If like me you’ve not done so in over 20 years, the announcement that you’re off to spend the evening in a Brazilian barbecue restaurant doesn’t fill your heart with delight. I’m familiar with the Brazilian barbecue concept because it’s very popular in Portugal and the restaurant nearest our factory there does the ‘lots of meat on skewers’ performance ver...Read More

~Georgia on my Mind~Atlanta airport is unquestionably one of the most frustrating and badly designed airports I’ve ever had the misfortune to travel through and I travel through a lot of airports. I know all the major European hub airports well – Heathrow, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels and Zurich are all places I’ve frequently used. None of my most hated European airports including Frankfurt and Brussels comes close to being as bad as Atlanta. It’s confusing, illogical, horribly badly laid-out and puts arriving passengers through the kind of turmoil which ought to be covered by the Geneva convention regulations on physical and mental torture. God help you if you don’t speak English...Read More

It’s a long time since I’ve stayed at a Doubletree and I remember only two things – that they give you cookies and that they lost my white cotton nightshirt. I learned two things from this; that you can forgive a lot if you get free cookies and secondly that forgiveness doesn’t stretch to accepting the rudeness of the staff who clearly didn’t give a damn about the laundry taking my property. I never got it back and I never forgot it was Doubletree that did it.I had no choice in the decision to spend three days at the Doubletree Northlake in Atlanta, Georgia. It was booked, I was summoned for a meeting there and so I went. And sure enough when I checked in I was given a bag of still warm co...Read More
