On a weekend break to Brighton I had spotted this unusually named restaurant and we popped in on the off chance that they had a table on the Saturday night. Unfortunately they were full, but we returned on Monday afternoon for lunch. As we hadn't booked we were asked to take a seat until the manager came long to seat us. This only took a few minutes but we did feel like we had been made to sit in the naughty corner for having the audacity to turn up without booking. The restaurant is not large but does cover several premises, it is quite cramped inside but the décor is contemporary with large food pictures on the wall, which I think represent dishes on the menu. There is a small sea...Read More

The Prince Regent (later King George IV) was a bit of a man about town and used to enjoy his breaks in Brighton before minor inconveniences like reigning got in the way. The original building was started in 1787, and the building was expanded on up until 1823. It is based in central Brighton and is now owned by the local authority. Parking in the city centre is a nightmare so I suggest walking if you can or using local public transport – the station is 10-15mins walk away. Admission is £9.80 (concessions are available, as are family and group tickets. Discounted prices are also available to local residents) which may seem a bit steep but I think it is worth it. We arrived one sunny S...Read More

On a recent weekend break to Brighton, we had some free time on Monday morning before our afternoon train, so after a little walk down to the seafront, when we spotted the poster for the Sea Life Centre, we decided to make a spontaneous visit. The Centre is open daily from 10am until 5pm in the week and 6pm at weekends and is located on the Marine Parade, almost opposite the Pier (the one that isn't burnt down). It is wheelchair accessible through a slightly different entrance. They claim they are the world's oldest aquarium. The staff member on the admissions desk was faffing about a bit and struggling with this ticket machine. He informed us that there was some building work going o...Read More

I had wanted to try Brighton’s Terre a Terre, a long standing, quirky vegetarian restaurant for many years. A recent weekend break gave me the opportunity and to avoid disappointment I booked online for a Sunday night visit. This was a quick, painless procedure with both an e-mail and a SMS confirmation appearing in the appropriate in-box within minutes. The restaurant has been going for 17 years and has won a host of local and national awards and accolades. When we arrived we were seated immediately, the restaurant was only about half full (although it has quite a large space and goes back a lot further than you realise) so we had a bit of choice and got a four seater table to ourselves. ...Read More

For a forthcoming weekend in Brighton, my partner and I needed accommodation. As usual we left everything to the last minute and were struggling to find a reasonably priced B & B for the Saturday night. In the end I decided to check the lodge chains to see what I could come up with. I found the Premier Inn in Brighton which seemed to have an excellent location. It was priced as £95 for the Saturday night and £49 for the Sunday, overall making it more competitive that the £75/80 per night B & Bs. This didn’t include breakfast however, which was a further £7.99 (which we passed on). For this we did get a Family Room where a sofa was made into a bed. It is not something we requested (or ne...Read More

On a recent weekend break to Brighton, we hadn’t booked a restaurant for the Saturday night, which in hindsight would have been a good idea. We tried several around The Lanes area but they were all fully booked. We spotted Zaffarelli on New Road, just off North Street, one of the main shopping streets in central Brighton. We thought it looked busy and we would be unlikely to get table, but one of the staff members came out and said that they had one more table for two. Our saviour, an Italian gentleman, seated us and fussed about sticking folded card under the table so it didn’t wobble, and getting us a menu. The restaurant is typical of many Italian restaurants I have been in – a goo...Read More
