De Gulle Gans

The restaurant of the Gulle Gans is located in the heart of the city of Assen and is really a great restaurant. Assen is a city that lies in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. It lies in the north and is near the city of Groningen. It doesn’t lay to far of the border of Germany but is still almost an hour away.

We went here because we were going out with friend to the theatre which is located on walking distance of the restaurant. We could park our car nearby and didn’t have to worry about that for the whole night because parking was free at the point. The restaurant is also close to the cinema of Assen so it’s perfect to combine a visit together. At night parking is no problem maybe during the day it might be busy with the people coming to town for shopping.

The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 17.00 to 22.00 The prices differ from a starter from € 6.50 and soup approximately € 4, - to meat or fish dishes around € 17, - and vegetarian dishes around € 15, -. At last desserts are approximate € 6.50. Not bad prices I think.

From the first moment we walked into the restaurant we could tell there was a good atmosphere. We were welcomed by the staff and on the background you could hear people laughing and having a good time. I think it's a cosy yet luxurious ambience and the restaurant looks very clean and well taken care of. You can tell by the cleanliness of the tables but also what the staff is wearing. They are wearing uniforms that match and they suit very well with the rest of the restaurant.

The restaurant has an extensive menu with lots of different dishes from hold and cold starters, meat or fish dishes and desserts. They also have vegetarian dishes which is always good to have. The menu wasn’t too big and looked well presented. You had a good selection of food were too choose from which I always find very important. I hate when you come to a restaurant and you only have a small menu or much of the same food. The restaurant had a good menu with several dishes and option as well as desserts.

The food is always the most important! The food was delicious and was really well presented on the plate. I had a steak and it got served with some potatoes and vegetables. It was really well cooked and just the way I ordered. The potatoes were nice and also the vegetables while normally I’m not a big fan of vegetables. Food is wonderfully prepared and everything is very nicely served. I would recommend the marinated olives as an appetizer. That was really delicious. As dessert I had fresh strawberries with ice cream as you can never go wrong with that.

The staff was very nice and from the first moment we walked in, we were welcomed with a big smile and that smile didn’t leave for the rest of the night. You could tell they liked working here and wanted you to have a great time. When we got our menu’s they had a couple of suggestions and politely answered a few of our questions about the food. One of my friend has an allergy and just wanted to make the foo was ok for her. What I appreciate was that the staff member said he would make sure that the cook wouldn’t use any ingredients that she didn’t want. When he brought the food over he said he double checked with the cook to make sure. Very nice of him.

There are toilets in the back of the restaurant that looked clean throughout the night. Always very important and I think it always says something about the restaurant itself. If they can’t even keep the toilets clean how will the kitchen be and how will be food be kept? You can certainly tell a lot from just seeing the toilets.

A real winner in my eyes. The restaurant is located on a perfect location for the rest of the night and is a great place to meet up with people before going to the theatre or the cinema. The staff is very friendly from the first moment you walked in and the food taste delicious. I think the prices are reasonable and certainly worth it. We had a great time!

In the middle of town, on a square in Emmen, find the city hotel / restaurant De Heeren van Boerland. It is a hotel and restaurant. You go through a separate entrance into the hotel. Parking is thankfully arranged for hotel guests. Because the hotel has a private parking. At the back entrance of the hotel. It was a bit of searching, but when I got the apartment building had found in the Western Street, I saw the curve where you get through to ride, and I came across a big parking lot, where an area is reserved for guests of the Lords of Boerland. There is even a handicapped place. Then you have to go through an alley to the centre and see the restaurant are located in shopping mall / market square.

You come into the restaurant and you're immediately in a cosy dark room with a fireplace. A large reading table and comfortable dark brown tables and chairs. The windows and frames are made of a beautiful oak wood. The left side of the room decorated like a bar. Small but cosy. Here you see that the locals like to dwell. There is a cosy atmosphere right away. You are also welcoming hospitality. The owner (Arnold, I found out later) goes directly to you and show you a nice spot.
Along the wall on school boards see what specialties purchased the pot tonight. The restaurant location is wheelchair accessible. The hotel itself somewhat more difficult because there are many stairs. The toilet is very tidy and hygienic.

You can enjoy a cup of coffee or a beer, a lunch and a small menu and dinner. So something for everyone on ALL days a week. That is probably because the hotel to the restaurant.
The lunch menu includes everything from sandwiches (from 2.00 euro’s) rolls (from 3.90 to 6 million), farm land lunch (6.75 euro’s) soup (3.50) to steak and fried eggs, pancakes, ice creams and cakes.

Apart is the ability to a coffee cake strip card to buy for 11.50 euro’s. You'll get 6 coffees and two pastries of choice. I had never heard of this. For dinner you can eat a la carte with the possibility of starters (eg between 8 and 9.50 euro Carpaccio) soups 3.50 main course (meat, fish and vegetarian) between 12 and 18 euro’s) desserts (4 - 5 euro’s) and children's menus.
I went for the daily dish a delicious pork sate with fries, vegetables and salad. It looked well groomed. It was not a point to sit there alone. In the restaurant so you had contact with the people. And during the aperitif or a nightcap in the bar was also very nice. But it was my hotel room nearby.

The owner is present in the bar and restaurant. Where very friendly and he speaks with the guests. But the other staff know the ropes. Despite the fact that it was very busy in the restaurant they gave you the feeling that they had plenty of time for you.

It is a cosy and friendly restaurant where you can eat a reasonable price. The owner is very welcoming, which immediately atmosphere. And after dinner, it's easy to make contact in the bar located inside the restaurant. I liked it fine and if I ever have to go to Emmen, I'll certainly return.

T''Raethuys located in Hoogeveen just at the intersection of Main Street and Hall Street.
This is a wonderful place to sit just off the street with the shops and still pretty quiet compared to when you are in a restaurant in the main sitting. It consists of a cosy terrace, restaurant and a takeaway section. It’s a little bit difficult to reach by car but just on 5 minutes walking distance there is a large car park. The car park is paid parking so keep that in mind.

It sits next to the restaurant (separate entrance) and here you can handle for a reasonable price fried rice / noodles, salads, sandwiches or pick up menus. You can call first to order it or you can just post to (usually it is on menus here than a fifteen minute wait, the rolls and fried rice / noodles and salads are often made and so you can take)

The terrace is comfortably furnished and is the restaurant. There are glass windshields, ‘so it's very nice but it's views. (Long-term people and shops, unfortunately not on the sea) The control and the card is just the same as in the restaurant.

The restaurant

The restaurant is tastefully decorated with high candles, curtains and stylish comfortable chairs. The service is fast and because you pay at the checkout before you do not have to wait. The coffee will always serve with a bowl of cookies / fudge. There's also things like cakes and biscuits waffles or luxury.

For lunch you can choose from a variety of sandwiches (very simple or deluxe), salads, soup, fried eggs, sandwiches and more. For everyone would say. For dinner there is also plenty of choice of meats, fish or vegetarian. This is of course with chips / potatoes, vegetables and salad. There is also a fairly extensive selection of desert. The card exchanged sometimes but not often and it's usually the side dishes such as seasonal vegetables.

The service is good, not only quickly, but if you ask whether a dish may be slightly different. (Or something out there just in, replacement of something etc) this is almost always possible.
The food will always served nice and the prices are very reasonable.

I think it’s a really nice restaurant and mostly to come in here when you are shopping in town and you want to have some lunch. For dinner this restaurant is also an option but I think there are nicer restaurant in the neighbourhood. The food quality is good and the staff is friendly. They also have an extensive menu so you can’t really go wrong at this restaurant in Hoogeveen. This really is a restaurant where you can come for just a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner.

Café Brasserie is still the largest part of the building and this is where you can find everything, like a snack a drink, dance floor, slot machines and a DJ. When you arrive, walk is the first bar on the size and long, because the bar about half of the pub across the left wall takes. Up front are a few tables across the board splits, then turns to the left side bar on the right still stands a row of tables. Behind the long bar are a few high tables, a large table and yet another row of tables, it is on Friday and Saturday are put aside so here dancing. Finally, at the very end is a bar that is used only on weekends. This cafe is seen as brown cafe this is due to the cosy atmosphere that is here. For me this is where I always find when I am in the Brassiere.

Belgian Beer Cafe is located above the pub and accessible via a staircase to the bar in the bras. When you arrive, the atmosphere is already clear to taste, here is a cosy and warm atmosphere. You can step during the evening enjoy a chat because the music here on a quiet level. If you are in this café to get the bar you can choose between dozens of different kinds of beer, but you can also pick up other drinks. Furthermore, during the weekend to find the back of a wardrobe and there is also a toilet.

Conservatory brassiere consists of about 8 tables with 4 chairs. From here it is great from a nice warm pub to see people on the street in the winter months. In summer it is lovely to stay here, because nearly the entire front open to the conservatory and you come in contact with the outside. In the conservatory by the staff serves you.

The outdoor patio can accommodate about 180 people and large crowds are often expanded with an additional 5 or so tables. In the summer you can enjoy people watching while enjoying a drink with the sun on your head. Even late at night it's still nice to sit, because the patio heater on if it starts to cool. For me the summer after shopping always get back to the bras down.

Food

The brassiere is very varied, you can eat a serving of warm ham croquette into a sandwich with all the trimmings, but also a delicious sandwich or a steak. The quality of the food does not endure, especially when you consider that you are in a coffee shop. If you know how small the kitchen will even be surprised to see such good quality they can deliver.

The staff is always friendly and always willing to help, this is usually very fast and you do not have to wait long for your food or drink. If you come here often you usually recognize them and even though you recognize them. If you need, most of the staff in for a joke.

You have several restrooms in the building, if you have one in the café itself (obviously for the men and women separate) and that's it above the same Templar. On weekdays, the toilet and hygiene at the cafe very well appointed, everything is so often with a swab taken and I think the toilets cleaned regularly. On weekends, this is obviously quite different (daytime course not, but in the evening / night though) this will be very difficult to clean all the time. But compared to other cafes frequented the Brassiere reasonably clean to appoint.

Security is also good in this pub so there is always at least one security guard on weekdays and weekends, these 3 or 4. Also note that security guards very well because if you see something happening you can see the security guards there always are when things get out together. One time I sat outside on a table and are dropped me through it, before I could stand was so for example if a security guard with me (they thought that I deliberately demolished), here that I know how the kitchen was inside look .

In the brassiere, there are no entrance fees except on special days like New Year indicated. In addition, prices of food and drink as high a standard free draft beer and a sandwich costs € 1.80 € 2.10, in my opinion these are normal prices. So a night out again to overlook.

My final verdict is that it is always fun in the pub but I'd rather go there on a weekday afternoon / evening and on Friday and Saturday. This is because there is always a fuss is that it is very hot and stuffy, and just because you get on the short stretch from beginning to end of the bar for fifteen minutes does it quickly because everyone in any way.
