Quote: Some people says that metropole of Iran, Tehran is not too nice city. I agree. Still I like it. It's quite polluted, there's not too much to do, it's overcrowded. Although I like it. I like it because of people.

Quick Tips:

Be careful of working days and hours in Iran. These Iranians have everything closed from Thursday afternoon till Saturday morning. And every day from 13:00 to 17:00 they have something like siesta...

Best Way To Get Around:

public transportation, walking, taxis

Mosaferkhune Mashad in Tehran is a reasonable place to stay. The price for a room was (in 1999) 15.000 IRR and the exchange rate was 8.500 IRR/1 USD. So it was less than 2 USD. They have nice small restaurant there where I met Mahmud. Mahmud was a cook. Great man! Also other people from the hotel staff are nice. Especially manager of the hotel Rashid. If you'll happen through this place, please send my greeting to these great people.

Restaurant | "fast food in Tehran Bazaar"

Try to eat in small fast food placess in the great bazaar in Tehran. They have there a huge range of different meals from fried potatoes through Persian pizza to kebabs. Prices are very low. You'll pay only few cents for quite a good meal. Try!

Azadi monument in translation is something like 'Monument of freedom'. It's quite an ironic name today when 3/4 of Iranis claim that they are not free. Still it's worth it to see the place. I like it.

In Tehran, there are many mosques. I found a few I liked and visited them. I like to walk through that city, so it's possible to find nice places there when you are not in hurry in a taxi, or a public bus. I am giving you a few photographs of these mosques without knowing if they are famous or not. I liked these. Especially the university mosque in Tehran university campus - it's nice.

Graffiti in Iran

Wall painting Photo, Tehran, Iran

I call it Iranian graffiti. These are pictures on walls everywhere in Iran. You can see pictures of Emmam Khomeini or President Khatami everywhere. And also scripts like 'Down with USA' or 'Down with Israel'. People do not care about them and love Americans like any other travellers. Still, these scripts are there and sometimes they are nice. There are sometimes really bizarre pictures like soldier in the garden full of flowers with the gun on his shoulder, or a man shooting into the sun. Still, it's nice to see these pics. I know the price of these pictures. I am Slovak, a citizen of former Czechoslovakia which belonged to the communist block in the past and we had such pictures ev...Read More

How I lost 150 USD in Tehran

Story/Tip

I was walking along the street in the central part of Tehran when suddenly a car (white Peykan) stopped beside me. Two guys in something like uniforms asked me for my passport. They told me that they were police and showed me some ID card written in Farsi with script 'POLICE' in Latin. And I showed them. They asked me to show them everything I had in my bag. They told that they caught one Italian and one Dutch guy carrying some heroin and fake money so they were searching for their companions. So I showed them my bag. After that they wanted to see my money. I refused and they started to be angry. After 5 minutes of speaking I showed them my money. And it was my great mistake! How could I b...Read More
