I was really hungry for some great breakfast food and a friend of mine recommended we go do breakfast at Yolk. I read the reviews on urbanspoon and really liked what saw there and knew that this would be a very good experience. Setting out on a very cold morning – I quickly found out the address given was not exactly correct on the street – because it’s in a building in between a building and on a corner at that that is between Ohio and Grand! Make sure you take note of that before walking too far!. As cold as I was by the time I finally found it- would do it all over again because this place has the breakfast food that just rocks! It is also a short walk from the Sheraton, if you do not walk too far ...Read More

Attraction | "A Fine Irish Sports Pub!"

Quote:
Now this is a great Irish pub with a lot of character! We were looking for a place to watch several college football games that were occurring at the same time, and found Timmy’s to definitely meet the bill in being able to do that – and have great food as well. Timmy O’Tooles is street level, and the only issue with a visit there is that parking is a bit difficult. Getting a table or booth and viewing sports on the over 40 HD TVs and 3 big screen TVs in Timmy’s is much easier than finding the parking in that part of Streeterville! Though it does not look like as such from outside, Timmy’s is really a huge place on the inside. The pub itself seems to be packed with locals and people staying at ...Read More

Hotel | "Trendy and a Bit Different in a Great Way"

Quote:
A reporter friend of mine in Chicago advised me to get a room at the Hotel Sax during one of my stays in Chicago. The Hotel Sax is kind of a different stay in Chicago, a place more orientated towards showmanship than just a regular 4 star hotel might be. And why not, their location places you near some of the best places to eat and drink in Chicago, to include a great club on the lobby floor. You get the feeling of the hotel from the friendliness of staff while checking in at the glass counters and the layout of the hotel reception area – and you know then that this place is going to be above an average stay. The initial impression you get from this is that this hotel has a very elegant style –...Read More

Keeping Tradition in Chicago

Story/Tip

One of the Southern traditions for New Year ’s Day is to have black-eyed peas for good luck in the new year. On those rare New Years Day when I am actually at home, always it is hoppin johns (seasoned black-eyed peas and rice with bacon) and pork barbeque that are the lunch to night time feast while watching the college bowl games. Having been talked into going to the Windy City by a friend there to join in on the New Years Eve parties, this year would have to forgo the traditional feast since the traditions in the Midwest are far from the same. After checking into my hotel and having lunch with friends, I headed out to see about getting some food for a early breakfast after we returned from th...Read More

Hotel | "Location is Everything in Winter"

Quote:
Location can be everything during wintertime in Chicago, and with its riverfront location and walking access to so many things on the North side of the river – the Sheraton was my pick for a New Years stay in the Windy City. That it had a pretty competitive rate for the NY weekend also helped out in making my choice. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Navy Pier, and the shops and places to eat along Michigan Avenue, as well as the walking and running path along the river. The surprise for me was that when I walked into the huge and well orchestrated lobby – I suddenly realized that I had actually stayed there 12 years ago while attending a journalist conference. The check-in lobby...Read More
