I frequently visited this location while I work for Holland America Cruise Line. It was a part of our Alaskan Cruise which was a 7 day trip. I will brush upon some of the highlights..

Tourist Attraction
It is a very beautiful Alaskan town. There are gorgeous mountains that are a perfect backdrop for the town. I would take advantage of the many excursions(tours) that they offer. In fact when I went there I was able to go on a tour in a kayak, with the Mendenhall Glacier in front of me. I saw seals and American bald eagles, not to mention the wonderful landscape of Juneau. I know that they offer Glacier walks, tram rides to the top of the mountains, and other great tours. DON'T forget to visit the Red Dog Saloon. It is the biggest attraction there, with an old feel of the Wild West, sawdust on the floor, and a funny piano player. Definately bring a lot of film.

Quick Tips:

Walk up Main Street, where you can go into the shops and buy, buy, buy. Also if you get a little hungry, they have McDonalds but don't worry they have nice little cafe around town. They also have many bars where one can see the locals and enjoy a mug of suds. For accommodations one can can check in at the Alaskan Hotel, or a few miles away there are several little hotels, Best Western, etc. Take advantage of this picturesque Alaskan town. Don't forget to bring umbrellas or rain slickers, because it does rain. They have Internet connection at the public library, right in town..

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is very easy around town and I would highly recommend it. But don't worry because there are taxis. I would reccommend walking because you get to take in the crisp, cool air. They have a tram ride that will take you up the mountain. If you could bring a bike that would be idle because then you could reach the outskirts of the town to see more of the Alaskan experience. Biking and walking are always the cheapest travel, but the taxis won't "take you for a ride" money wise if that is what you prefer.
