Wildlife in the Park:Everywhere we visit we try to see local wildlife in the wild rather than in zoos or safari parks. Just outside Brisbane is a lovely animal park with lots of local animals called the ‘Lone Pine Sanctuary’ and if we had come with young children then we would have made our way there but my husband was determined to see the wildlife in the wild so we went hunting to see what we could find.Within this park we should have been able to see koalas, wallabies, lyre birds, lace monitor lizards many different birds, various frogs and in one area near Nimbin there is a river where platypus are regularly seen. What did we see? We saw a few bush turkeys who have to be one...Read More

This is the ‘Jungle’ from the TV series ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ but I’m afraid we didn’t get to see the famous camp sites! The Forest is about 100km south of Brisbane but not so far from the Gold Coast going inland from the coast. That is how they get those celebrities out of the jungle into the posh hotel so quickly. This National Park covers 6197 ha and is split into four main sections—Springbrook...Read More

Attraction | "Great Park on old Expo '88 Site"

Quote:
Brisbane South Bank ParkI left Brisbane which had been my home for thirteen years and brought my two young children back home to England to start a new life by ourselves in April 1989. We had spent the previous year enjoying the wonderful Expo 88 which was on the South bank of the Brisbane River. As we had season tickets I must have taken the children at least three times a week as there was always something new to see or do there. After Expo finished there was a lot of discussion as to what should be done with the area. Some eco conservationists wanted in returned to natural parkland whist others wanted something a bit more exciting that would be used by more people than dog w...Read More

Econo Lodge City Star, Kangaroo Point Brisbane,We spent a couple of weeks in and around the area of Brisbane in October last year as part of our Pacific Island trip. My son was in Brisbane for a year and we partly went to see him and also I wanted to visit places that I had not been since I left Brisbane in 1989. There were quite a few old friends to catch up with too so we had a fairly busy time. The first week we spent at the Gold Coast in a holiday unit exploring the area of south NSW and the coast. The second week we spent seeing friends, two nights with friends in Brisbane then up to the north coast to stay with another friend in Buderim. Our very last night we booked to st...Read More

You could be collected from Hervey Bay earlier or at rainbow Beach Tourist Information centre for 7.40am and we could leave our car parked in the parking area in the middle of the small town of rainbow Beach. There really isn’t much in Rainbow Beach but I did quite like it as it reminded me on the north coast area as I remember it about twenty years ago. There are about ten shops ,a hotel, a petrol station and a couple of hostels but not a lot else besides houses. This is the closest town to where the car ferry crosses to fraser island from the main land hence the pick up here.We were collected in the huge for wheel drive truck/bus which seated about twenty people I think but...Read More

Whale Watching Gold Coast

Attraction | "1300 Whales"

Quote:
We booked this trip through the tour desk at Tiki Village where we were staying as she recommended this tour over the ‘Whales in Paradise’ whale watching we asked her to book. Apparently the one we wanted used quite small boats so were much less comfortable and they took longer to get out to where the whales were so you spent less time with the whales and more time cruising round looking at wealthy people’s houses in the canals. This company uses the Gold Coast's largest and most stable boats which are " luxurious 32 metre multi-million dollar wave piercing high speed catamarans"We paid $95 each which included pick up and drop off at the resort, morning coffee and a muffin on the bo...Read More

Tiki Village is a time share resort but you can pay to stay there too. We paid about £250 for a week in a one bedroom self catering apartment. The complex is quite old and in some aspects it was quite dated but as a place to base ourselves it served the purpose admirably. We drove from Brisbane after we arrived from Nadi, Fiji via Auckland in New Zealand. We arrived in Brisbane at about 4pm but by the time we found our luggage and then completed forms for the luggage that they had mislaid in Nadi and finally spent over an hour sorting out the car we had hired and prepaid for we left the Airport at about 6pm and arrived at the resort at about 8pm so it was a very long day and we were shatte...Read More
